I see. Lull them into a state of complacency just before you stir them into a frenzy. How devious of you.

Mine has made that sound for 50,000 miles or so. I believe it is a sound that the dual mass flywheel sometimes makes. My clutch functions fine so I've learned to ignore it. If you are still under warranty maybe you can get them to replace it, if not turn up the radio.

If you're still under warranty you'd be silly not to bring it in for a dealer check up. I hope it's nothing too bad as a whipping in a new clutch is damn expensive:cryin:

Well, Artemis is home....
The result? They said the noise was normal for that type of flywheel.
Ah, ok?
I'm not worrying about it..... if it blows up on me and they don't cover it, I'm just going aftermarket and be done with it. -

Oh the famous "they all do that". They go to school to learn to say such things with a straight face.
For what it's worth I think it will be OK. Mine has made noise for many miles & everything is fine. -

Mine has been making an odd noise (flywheel) for 50,000 miles or so. I'm sure your will run a long time too. My MINI already has an LSD.

Mine has a factory LSD but that was exactly the noise I heard. Metallic chatter while in neutral and foot off the clutch pedal (clutch engaged) and then it goes away when you push down on the clutch pedal (clutch dis-engaged). The reason it got my attention in the MINI is that the dual mass flywheels in the 2006-2008 350Zs (like the one I had) had a tendancy to go bad and chatter like nervious chihuahua in the snow (like mine did). The net result is poor engagement and premature wear of the clutch disc.
They (MINI if Monrovia) tore mine down and found the funny wear on the clutch and the dual mass flywheel was flexing too far and it was all replaced. (I think you've seen that thread already. Post replacement no funny noises or engagement issues. -

My clutch began to whistle like a teapot, first only when in motion but later on when idling as well. Just touching the clutch made it stop. It was diagnosed as a bad throwout bearing. Fortunately, the shop had a 40% off promo going on, so it only cost $900. Sadly, it's started again 6 months later - going in tomorrow for a warranty review (or trade in if they say it's normal!).

So my car was diagnosed with weak pressure plate fingers, and a bad throwout bearing. Both replaced, along with a new pressure plate and clutch disc, for no charge due to the two year parts warranty of my original repair. Thanks Mini North Scottsdale!
