Assuming I volunteer at registrations again, that is another place where we can stress the importance of the road rules and continuing our good reputation as a community. Put the saying on the lanyards as well. I liked the "enjoy the ride, stay on your side" motif.
Maybe play on the british heritage of our cars, how polite and accommodating we can be?
I keep thinking of Chip n Dale, the very proper and polite chipmunks.

I think that Jack's excellent newbie orientation should be urged for all to consider.
I'm not sure how to state it without downplaying it's importance to newbies in particular, but it really is an excellent training session for everyone.
It wouldn't hurt for those of us who only get up to Deal's Gap once a year to run through it again as a refresher.

There are some good positive ideas here that sound very workable.
Making it known that our community considers safety of utmost importance is bound make an impression.
In the end everyone will make their own choices, but at least it will be known that our group makes the effort to promote safe driving.

Maybe we can pass out tokens to other drivers "caught" sharing the rode safely?
Maybe the tokens could be entered into a drawing for a prize?
Or, maybe good drivers could be announced at evening events?
Something like "Mini Car" was caught pulling over to let others pass...
somehow make it fun and funny...

IDK - just thinking out loud.
The teacher in me would rather catch drivers doing something right, than berating those who make mistakes.

Blatant disregard for safety is different though and those drivers should be put on notice that the community does not condone their risky behaviour.

FWIW - I was shocked to see a photo of Little Wing's front wheel touching the yellow line. I would have sworn that I don't do that. The white line ....whole different story for me, especially since I twice came around a blind curve to find a bike heading at me in my lane. Unnerving.
Yep. I could benefit from Jack's training session again. :yesnod:

I think the poster is really good. I might suggest an additional one with a MINI and motorcycle. Trying to get all the clubs to promote responsible driving all year long would help. That way when we get to the Dragon they have been hearing the message. The other suggestion would be to make some volunteer Tee shirts with the message. It would have an impact if everyone in registration was wearing one.

I am toying with the idea of making one of Craigs "safety designs" into a T-Shirt and having it for sale at registration. Maybe if we get enough walking billboards it might have a positive effect.

The ID tags and lanyards could have a warning sign printed on each one. Perhaps a double-yellow line inside a red circle with a red diagonal line, indicating "don't cross the line". Perhaps a slogan "Don't Cross the Line" could be added to all flyers, and literature.

This is a problem that goes beyond MOTD, however it is more visible here with all the people and cameras. The Dragon has many blind turns where some like to "cut the corners". This is especially dangerous with the amount of on-coming traffic.

I think it might be a good moto for all MINI/Mini clubs to adopt, and do it on an on-going basis.

    Right of the Line!

    Mind the Line!

    Mind the Lane!

Image of a wrecked MINI with the copy "This was fun right up until I crossed the line."

Yep incorporating a symbol with the mission statement will make that symbol (whatever is choosen) recognizable and easily used in so many ways.

Maybe this campaign could be something used through out the car and motorcycle clubs no matter the make and benefit us all.

I don't know if anyone has thrown the idea out there yet but... what if we change the name 'Newbie Orientation' to something more general like 'Dragon Safety'? Perhaps some vets would be more likely to show up if it didn't have the 'newbie' label?

Maybe even offer a random drawing prize for those who attend. (Perhaps another opportunity to raise money for the food bank.)

How about if you see a fellow MINIac cross the line, mention it to them when you see them while not driving?

I don't mean getting into a confrontation with someone, but hey, if people know that their own are watching them and will call them on it, then hey! Maybe they will be a little embarrassed and not do it again!

    Just my 2 cents

Would a nightly burning effigy of the days worst scofflaw at the fire pit be a bit much??

How about a Dragon driver roast?

Make a slideshow of "last year's" worst offenders. Show it at the Welcome Dinner

    A. Slideshow doesn't show well in the Rec. Hall
    B. I have no interest in starting of the event by getting into shouting match with a irrate past offender :mad2:

Honestly, I think all the talk we have been having about this and the ideas Snooter is planing to put into effect will do the job. Everyone knows we are taking this seriously and should act accordingly.
