I understand fully. Part of my motivation has been the staff. From day 1 they have been genuine in this not being just a job they do but that they do enjoy helping others. That has been infectious to me making it easier to want to go and do my best every day too.
As trite or cliche'd as it may sound, malls are perfect for this sort of activity, whether you go in early or just mingle with the crowds. Plenty of open spaces that are nice and warm (or cool, depending on the season) and always open...usually there's a group that meets there regularly and going with a group is an excellent way to get regular at it. I'm waiting for my second stress test -my last one 2 years ago was "normal", which they tell me is the result they want to see - and if I pass this one too I'll be eligible to get my knee fixed, hopefully over the Xmas holiday. Once that's done it's into the senior center for me - I'm hoping I'm the youngest if not the most fit guy there! The rates are cheap and I should have little to no competition from those young six packed hard bodies! If you're too young to get in there, go to the YMCA - also good rates and plenty of things to do, machines, free weights, walking, steps etc. Plus they have a pool! If I can do it, so can anybody.....
Mall walking is great, but dare to be different--you guys should make a Walmart walkers club. It would make for a great thread; the pictures would be priceless...The motivation factor comes into play too--a half hour in any Walmart (or fifteen minutes in any SuperWalmart) and you're coming out of there feeling much better about yourself...
I feel I am quite fortunate to have access to The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center’s Cardiac Rehabilitation programs. While the formal 36 session phase is complete I continue to have access to the same people and facilities at no charge for another 30 days. After that period I would then start to pay. The rate is a nominal $50 per quarter. The main difference is that I am not hooked to a heart monitor. I still have access to all the trainers, exercise physiologists, nutritionists and RN's that staff the program. Once I am a paying access to all other interesting activities presented to me as well. In addition I get to help shape the future of our health care professionals in my own little way. There is quite the parade of interns rotating through the program. I loathe malls and their massive suck of uniqueness from our lives. But thats me.. I tell ya...I feel marvelous.
Hey Nate you are doing great so keep up the good work. Look how far you have come in such a short time. Now it's time to make you feel even better with a little joke......:eek6: Look back a few more years when you took out a MINI vert for a ride.:nonod::lol:
End or week, sort of, update. Physically, I'm doing great. I can easily walk 10+ miles a day now. On a 16 Day streak of over 12,000 steps per day. Mentally, not so much. I am seeking assistance in this area. Hopefully we can get it corrected quickly. Sleep is about non-existent. Caught a cat nap for a few hours this afternoon, before that it was Tuesday for a few hours. The house is very clean. Peppercorns have been sorted by size, color and perceived potency. Umm, yeah, the OCD has been kicking in big time too. Cleaned out closet of all the biggest clothes. They are all way to big now. Donating them to the Volunteers of America Thrift Store. An industrious person could use all that material to cover the walls of yurt built for 4.
Odd... Been having some of those symtoms myself since Tuesday. Have you tried counting Dragons, or curves? 10 Miles is great, only need to gain 1 mile before you can out walk any Mynes car from Tabcat bridge to Hellbender...
Hi - long term - sleep is essential for mental health, as you likely know Nathan. I encourage you to get the Z's worked out - so keep advocating for yourself. A piece at a time..... Good job with the physical activity!!!! :beer
+1. Gotta get the sleep figured out, it's far and away the most important factor to get your mindset where you want it. None of us are spring chickens anymore; more like late fall or early winter chickens; we just don't function well without quality sleep.
Meditative yoga. I'm sure I'm too simplistic here but, as you already know, for a very busy mind/body/life, quieting yourself and paying an enormous amount of attention to your breath is very relaxing. You do plan to continue yoga practice, right?
Ok... Without getting into a lot of personal and deep carp going on in my head I reached a point last week that found me in the ER. The good news, I can walk from home to the ER at a good clip without getting winded. As a result of that lovely overnight stay in the ER's psych ward I have seen a doc today that I'll be working with to adjust whats going on up there. And oh boy....New Meds
