    Good luck Nathan.

About forty years ago, a friend wanted to keep a section of removed colon and the doctor gave it to him!

He used it for crab bait.

See if they can replace it with a filter. I'm sure one of the sponsors have something that'll work.

Here's wishing you a speedy recovery!

My father was a urologist and used to keep "special" kidneys in jars around his office...no doubt to scare the fark out of his patients, IMHO. However, he always thought of it as "reminders" of what happens when we let our guards down...even for a moment.

I wish you a speedy and healthy recovery, Nathan! Our prayers are with you and you are on the Prayer List at our church!

Nathan I had kidney cancer in 2012, they removed my left kidney and it has not been a problem.

I was in the hospital for three days and then back home, all has been well. I do get a mri every year

just to make sure that nothing else is going on. Best of luck.

Technically it's not. There are legalities involved, and waivers signed. On occasion I'll let patients keep stones but not solid organs.

And this isn't a kidney cancer, it's a transitional cell cancer of the lining of the kidney, which is an entirely different animal, in response to a different post in this thread...

In either case you don't want to keep it anyway. Getting it out is just part, although the biggest part, of the process. The kidney needs to be sectioned and analyzed for grade (how aggressive the cells are) and stage (how far the tumor has invaded, as well as size), which has important prognostic and therapeutic implications. Can't get those answers if it's sitting on your shelf in a jar. Be kind of like getting married and then saying forget about the sex part; some things you want to go all the way through with.

    Good luck...and hang in there!!
We all have out battles to fight....shame you have had so many.

Anybody have a craving for a good kidney pie? A good traditional English dish....only had it once in England ....
Maybe you should celebrate when all this is done with a trip to England.....my wife says I'm odd connecting dots like that...perverse...but I think it keeps folks smiling.

Jeebus man! You just can't get a break!!!

Hope all goes well, there's a lot of people out there running the single filter mod... Evidently some engineer somewhere thought it was a good idea to include spare and backup parts on common wear items, wish they would do that with cars.

Make sure to read all the paper work and not sign that one that says you can't keep it, I hear they make good pets and don't eat much. You could name it Bean, and keep it next to a crock pot.

Best of luck Nathan! We just said a prayer and know all will be well afterwards.

On another note, Doc, I thought ones marriage license was in fact your ticket to celibacy...
