The water pump runs off the back of the SC. If the belt is slipping I could cause all sorts of problems and of course if the crank pulley is bad it will also cause lots of problems.
When you change the crank pulley get a new belt. Also check the belt tensioner. If it is week it will allow the belt to slip under acceleration. You still may not be able to move the belt by hand.
The best way I know of th check the tensioner is watching it when the engine is revved. If it moves back then it is allowing the belt to slip.
To get the belt off you pry the tensioner back. Then you will see a a tab slid out with holes in it. Put a small Allen wrench in the hold. That will holt it back so you can install the new belt.
Maybe some of the other guys will have something to add.
    Good luck

I checked the tensioner, it's rock solid. The noise from the pulley is intermittent, less often when warm, I know it needs to be replaced. I'll need to order it and the belt on line, the dealer is crazy expensive (over 300.00 for pulley 70 plus for belt). If anyone has a line on parts I'd be grateful. I've seen them for about half online but I'd like to go to the most reliable/reputable place possible.I've maybe said before, I'm a Jeep guy I can find those places all day. I've never had to fix a mini before. Are those Alta lightened pulleys any good ?

Actually.....I would skip both the OEM and the fluid filled.......save your money and just go with a solid 2% over drive pulley. Solid pulleys have NEVER been shown to be an issue....EVER! I have run my 2% for years....with a 16% SC pulley...AND....my car pulls to 8000 rpm! But....it's your choice

    Thanks guys.
I replaced the cps. I decided to pull the new MAP to take a look and there was a slight film of oil. The air filter wasn't clogged. I took the intercooler(?) off the rubber gasket on the right had some oil in it also. could the hose from the crankcase be plugged or something ?
I borrowed an obd2 reader and I'll erase the old codes tomorrow and drive some and take new readings to see where I'm at.

OK, looks like the super charger pulley. The noise is coming from the pulley end(couldn't hear any noise with stethescope in the charger body). The belt is starting to shred.I'll be ordering sc pulley, Crank pulley, and belt tomorrow. I don't think the s charger went dry, but I don't know how to check. I think I'll be OK w/belt and pulley. The oil up top bugs me it's not a lot but I think it should be dry. I'm gonna check the crankcase vent hoses.

The oil? That might actually be your motor mount?

It was inside the boot on the right side of the intercooler, and a slight film on the MAP when I pulled it out. looked like engine oil ,and it wasn't smelly so I don't think it was from the sc.

Ok your biggest problem is your a Gator fan. But we don't do mental help here.
As for the Mini. Just to make sure there's no misunderstanding. The water pump runs off gears at the back of the SC. This is the usual place that runs dry. This is where the noise would be.

If your worried about the SC running dry it's not an expensive job to open it up and service it. As far as I know you need to remove the SC to do both chambers

If your going to order a new SC pulley get a 15% pulley. More power is good,:arf:

OK,the pulley/belt should be here tomorrow. Here's my question. What do you think my chances are of getting the old pulley off without the "magical" Mini puller? Has any one had any luck with the garden variety puller? found a thread. don't have a tensioner tool, can I use a long screw driver or pry bar to loosen tensioner? :skep:

:cornut: Just me............when I don't have the proper tools (or knowledge for that matter) and try to improvise , I end up causing problem # 2 which then must also be fixed before I can then fix the original problem # 1.

:cornut: A 'shot in the dark' here but have you tried AutoZone, O'Reilly's etc to see about renting the tools? Give it a try.

I successfully used the serpentine belt tool from AutoZone to detension my SC belt and get an allen wrench in the second tensioner hole when I did my pulley. Compressing the tensioner and getting the belt off is a fairly simple operation with proper research.

Removing the SC pulley is a whole different game. I would NOT attempt to remove it without a designated tool.

90 miles and it's running great, very responsive...etc. I took another code reading this morning, and got a 0172(system too rich). One of the first things I replaced was the MAP sensor up front. Maybe the other one's bad ?
