It was inside the boot on the right side of the intercooler, and a slight film on the MAP when I pulled it out. looked like engine oil ,and it wasn't smelly so I don't think it was from the sc.
Ok your biggest problem is your a Gator fan. But we don't do mental help here. As for the Mini. Just to make sure there's no misunderstanding. The water pump runs off gears at the back of the SC. This is the usual place that runs dry. This is where the noise would be.
If your worried about the SC running dry it's not an expensive job to open it up and service it. As far as I know you need to remove the SC to do both chambers
I'm now 90% sure the noise I was hearing was the belt flapping around as it came around the sc pulley. I'm just going to replace the crank pulley and belt, and listen to it' if I hear anything strange I'll go from there :fingerscrossed:. Gonna go 0%, the last thing my wife needs is MORE POWER. Not a Gator fan just say that sometimes,ya know like "see ya later aligator" Guess I'm just weird that way. Any how just waiting now for the part, wish me luck (hope the sc's not going.) Thanks for everyone's input,I really apreciate it. If anyone's got an old Jeep they want to screw around with lemme know(just empty every pocket).
OK,the pulley/belt should be here tomorrow. Here's my question. What do you think my chances are of getting the old pulley off without the "magical" Mini puller? Has any one had any luck with the garden variety puller? found a thread. don't have a tensioner tool, can I use a long screw driver or pry bar to loosen tensioner? :skep:
:cornut: Just me............when I don't have the proper tools (or knowledge for that matter) and try to improvise , I end up causing problem # 2 which then must also be fixed before I can then fix the original problem # 1. Jason
Thanks Jason, I can relate. That's why I'm trying to pick as many brains as possible. I Can't afford a book right now, and I didn't now I needed a special tool to actuate the tensioner. Believe me I don't wanna break anything, but I need to get dis thang back on the road.
just saw a vid w/tension tool in action. Looks like I need to try to find one, unless someone has any ideas. Before anyone says it I know about that right tool for the job thing :biggrin5:
:cornut: A 'shot in the dark' here but have you tried AutoZone, O'Reilly's etc to see about renting the tools? Give it a try. Jason
Yup am going to get puller a O'reilly's and I'll ask about tensioner tool, but I'd be surprised if they have such a specialty tool. Stranger things have happened tho.
:cornut: Silly me:blush2: , I forgot what can be the most important resource , your local MINI club. Metroplex Mini in Dallas , TX has many of these tools for their members. If you're unsure of clubs in your area , check the 'clubs list' above. Sorry about that. Jason
You can move the belt tensioner with a pry bar. I've done it two times. It is hard though. The one place to pry is small so the pry bar keeps slipping, then you need someone to put something is the tensioner hole to hold it. The tool would be much better. Jason is right on with checking with the local club. I wish one of us rocket scientist had thought of that sooner.
Thanks, parts got here today. I'm not sure if I'll get to it til the weekend, that gives me a couple days to try to get the tool. :fingerscrossed:
I successfully used the serpentine belt tool from AutoZone to detension my SC belt and get an allen wrench in the second tensioner hole when I did my pulley. Compressing the tensioner and getting the belt off is a fairly simple operation with proper research. Removing the SC pulley is a whole different game. I would NOT attempt to remove it without a designated tool.
OK...I'm sure everyone's been waiting with to hear how badly I botched my first crank pulley job :yikes: I got er done yesterday. I was really worried about the tensioner part of the show, because I was unable to get a Mini Tool in time. Seems like the trick is to use a pry bar with a good sharp edge, and an extra set of hands. My buddy got a good bite on the bottom edge and released the tension while I put the allen wrench in the hole(didn't slip once!!). The old pulley came off in two pieces like most of the pics I've seen.I elected to use a solid pulley. Got it back together yesterday. I cleared the codes, and have put maybe 25 miles on it so far with no problems, it's running great! Thanks for everyone's advice on dis thang.:cornut:
