I will buy a new MINI in 2025, and I will name it "HAL 9000". I will take it to the track and attempt to turn off the DSC, at which point HAL will immediately deploy the airbag and kill me.
This has been a long time coming. When kids spend more on the radio (ICE) than the rest of the car the performance enthusiast may be dead.
Studies done back when ABS and DSC were options showed that the "nannies" in the car the less people paid attention to driving. They figured the computer would save them.
See, that's something I don't understand. Phones have GPS and accelerometers in them, so it seems that if the phone is moving beyond a certain speed that it should be aware of that. If it is aware of the fact that it's moving, it should turn off the phone and texting part, and only allow things like music and maps. I'd like that to be an option on the phones, turned on by default (if no hands free device is present?) but still able to be turned off for emergencies or some such. And if a phone could theoretically be made to do that, how much simpler for in-car distracting electronics? I mean, it's not like we have sophisticated calculating machines that can be made to monitor multiple variables and conditions or anything. :incazzato::incazzato::incazzato::incazzato::incazzato: [/rant]
There are actually some apps that do just that......if the car is moving no texts and only hands free talking. One was actually developed by a mom with no programming skills, but she taught herself and wrote an app after her daughter died in an accident while on the phone.
