I know I typed made, but it was supposed to be make a complete & speedy recovery. The fact they didn't chopper him out of the speedway may be a good sign. :fingerscrossed:

Well, I heard they moved him to the ICU. That's progress. On the other hand it's probably also old news, ICU after surgery, and we likely won't hear much more until tomorrow.

:cornut: This is routine if pulse became slow/fast/abnormal rhythm or if blood pressure was hypertensive/hypotensive during or after surgery.

Quick safety team response key in critical Hinchcliffe crash (racer.com)

Great response by IndyCar's safety and medical teams more than likely saved James Hinchcliffe's life on Monday.

The personable Canadian driver was bleeding profusely after a vicious accident in Turn 3 at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway and, according to one of Hinchcliffe's associates who asked not to be identified when speaking with RACER, it was a life-threatening situation that was handled to perfection by IndyCar's HOLMATRO Safety Team, and by doctors inside the ambulance that rushed him to IU Health Methodist Hospital before surgeons completed the save.

In the impact, which flattened the right side of the chassis, one of the suspension wishbones penetrated the Dallara safety cell, and subsequently caused the majority of the physical damage Hinchcliffe received. RACER has confirmed through multiple sources that Hinchcliffe had the steel wishbone enter and exit his right leg, then enter his upper left thigh, and continue into his pelvic region before it came to a stop.

The suspension component pinned the 28-year-old in the car, leading the safety team to cut the wishbone from the chassis to allow Hinchcliffe's extraction.

With the multiple intrusions, Hinchcliffe experienced massive blood loss at the crash site, and despite the gravity of the soft tissue injuries to his lower extremities, stopping the bleeding became an immediate priority for the medical staff to address once he was pulled from the chassis.

After being placed in the ambulance, the doctors and technicians inside evidently stabilized Hinchcliffe's injuries. It's not known how long he was in surgery but it was "touch and go" for a while, according to the source.

"He's probably not going to race anymore this year but the most important thing is that all those great people saved his life," said his friend.

Hinchcliffe, who serves as Schmidt Peterson Motorsport's lead driver and won the IndyCar race at New Orleans in April, crashed entering Turn 3 during Monday's practice session. According to timing and scoring data, he was carrying at least 228mph of momentum before a right-front suspension failure sent the No. 5 ARROW Dallara-Honda into the SAFER barrier nose first. Without the ability to steer the car, Hinchcliffe was unable to alter his course. The force of the impact reportedly measured 125 Gs.

Many observers, including those who've witnessed some of the most troubling crashes at Indianapolis, believe Hinchcliffe's impact was among the most violent on record. Upon reaching the crash site, emergency workers radioed the incident in as a "Code 5," which is reserved for traumatic situations.

Hinchcliffe remained in intensive care but was resting comfortably on Tuesday morning.

UPDATED Wednesday, May 20: Verizon IndyCar Series driver James Hinchcliffe has been transferred out of the Intensive Care Unit at IU Health Methodist Hospital as the Canadian continues to make substantial improvement following surgery on May 18 for injuries to his pelvic area and upper left thigh. Upon further evaluation this morning, it was determined that Hinchcliffe will require no further procedures and is expected to make a full recovery from his injuries.

"We're very pleased with his progress and his condition continues to improve," said Dr. Timothy Pohlman, Senior Staff Trauma Surgeon at IU Health Methodist Hospital, who performed the surgery. "Our expectation, in consultation with the INDYCAR medical staff, is that a normal recovery is to be expected."

Juan Pablo Montoya held off Will Power to win the 2015 Indianapolis 500.

A wild finish saw Power, Montoya and Scott Dixon exchange the lead multiple times over the final laps with Montoya prevailing to take the checkered flag.

This was Montoya's second victory in the premier North American open-wheel race and Team Penske's 16th overall. He completed the winning pass with three laps to go when he made a brazen dive to the inside of Power down the Indianapolis Motor Speedway front stretch. Power, a Penske teammate of Montoya's, attempted multiple passes for the lead but the 2000 Indianapolis winner fended him off each time.

Dixon of Chip Ganassi Racing started on the pole and led a race-high 84 laps, but faded to fourth. Teammate Charlie Kimball finished third. Graham Rahal was the top finishing Honda driver in fifth.

There were five lead changes over the final 15 laps following a restart for a multi-car wreck in Turn 4.

"Oh my god, that was awesome!" Montoya said. "I don't even know what to say."

Penske and Ganassi cars dominated Sunday, with the teams often holding the top seven positions throughout the afternoon race. IndyCar's two best teams have now combined to win 10 of the past 16 races, and Roger Penske joins Chip Ganassi as the only two car owners to win the Indianapolis 500 and Daytona 500 in the same year. Joey Logano won NASCAR's Daytona 500 in February.

Montoya had to overcome a Lap 1 incident that saw Simona de Silvestro run into him under caution. The contact damaged Montoya's wing and right rear wheel guard and dropped him to 30th after making repairs.

A hoarse Juan Pablo Montoya collected a large winner's check Monday night â€” the amount was withheld by Indianapolis Motor Speedway officials until after the evening awards ceremony â€” and will make the New York and Dallas media rounds before heading to Detroit for this weekend's IndyCar Series doubleheader at Belle Isle Park.

Montoya described a relatively quiet downtown post-race victory party, which included riding on a rolling pedal bar and watching the race's television replay in an actual bar.

"I don't drink, so that was it," he said Monday.

Montoya took considerable pleasure from an Instagram video of his crew dancing as he crossed the finish line.

"Oh, my God, that was priceless," he said. "The more I watched it the more I laughed."

That too was a great race, in fact better than Indy. A road race is always better than an oval in my book. Tag was really peddling that car.

I thought the whole race was pretty damned good. 37 lead changes, it was a drivers race instead of one car running away. Indy needed a race like this; Indy is finally building on it's success, and doing so without Danica. The 500 is relevant again.

Agreed, that was a great race for so many reasons! As for Danica, I think it's only due time before she washes outa NASCAR. And what the hell was she doing in last weekend's All-Star race? I mean, REALLY!?
