I think I joined that forum a while ago. never been to any events though guess i'll have to keep checking to see whats going on.
now back to the issue at hand. It seems as though as long as I have the DT bypass valve I'm going to have yoyo (unless there's any tricks that haven't been mentioned yet). now I just need to decide if I'm willing to deal with it or if i'll just return it to stock and sell the DT.... -
There is a middle ground...
first off, a custom tune should be able to deal with it. But if you want some mid range between the two, take the stock valve, and stretch the spring. I stretched mine about 3/8", got a bit earlier opening, and didn't get the binary behaviour of the DT unit.

I think I've decided to remove the DT valve and sell it. Although I do like the feel of it when im going WOT I don't drive like that all the time and that bonus can't offset the yo yo I experience while cruising. I may try Dr obnxs idea although after having the DT in there I'm scared of disturbing the factory one (don't want to end up right where I'm at) I may reinstall the VGS mod to see if that will add any performance for me (without yo yo of course). Either way I will update this after I remove the DT. won't be until the weekend though.
Oh and is anyone interested in a slightly used DT bypass valve? -

The DT bypass valve was developed in response to a specific issue with the 02-03 ECU maps, as the good Doctor has already pointed out. IIRC, MINI attempted to fix the issue with a software update, but it made the throttle more sluggish. The DT bypass valve has limited success with the 04-06 cars because they didn't have the "yo-yo" issue in the first place. Look up "yo-yo" on the sewing site - it was a big topic back in the day.
The guys at Detroit Tuned made the correct diagnosis (weak bypass valve spring), developed a solution, and started selling complete bypass valves with the upgraded spring inside to ease installation. In my opinion, it's not so much a performance upgrade as a performance solution. I'm glad they stepped up and provided the MINI community with excellent engineering where the factory support fell short, but I think misapplication of the product is becoming more common. -
Since you're in GA, contact Way Motor Works in Atlanta. He can probably fix you up.

Fix me up how exactly? I know a tune would be able to fix it but I don't have the money for one right now. And although Way is nice I doubt he is nice enough to even give me a partial tune for free (just enough to remove the yo yo)

Just an update I removed the DT valve this morning and went back to stock with the VGS mod and I have no more Yo yo. Although I'm not sure if the VGS mod is doing anything at least the cars riding smooth again.
