:cornut: No help here. I can't even find that specific code (P1689) in our library under 1st gen MINIs and I believe that yours is an R52 S. I have an R56 so I guess that we'll have to wait for some R53 or R52 S type people to come along. Good Luck.

Here's the definition of DTC P1689 -
P1689 5769 Electronic Throttle Control Monitor Level 2/3 Torque Calculation Error.
If you have access to a BavTech tool have your car scanned and reset all the adaptives.
Enthusiast kit - option 1...$287.00

Yeah, that's a very vague code. This thread says dealer has a TSB:
Code P1689 and low power - North American Motoring -

Yup is just a Throttle Control Calculation Error that can fixed with the BavTech tool by resetting the adaptives.
Its a very easy tool to use and it cheap at only $287. I have one and use it all the time to help people out. It pulls all MINI / BMW codes and allows you to reset things like adaptives and airbag lights. It has a lot of features that autozone type scan tools cannot provide.
Also the 3 VIN limit is not an issue if you do not register VINs in the tool.
It will also clear the dreaded P2096. <-- read up on that one. -
Recently had the same code and limp mode. Cleared the code and went on with life, no more problem.
Mine triggered on a very cold morning, below 20F, car was warmed up. I did a bunch of downshifts with throttle blips coming to a traffic light on a long highway off ramp. Recently had changed tires from summer to winter as well.
Not sure if that helps at all. -

I have AutoEnginuity and can clear adaptations with that. Will give that a try.
Thanks for all the thoughts.
