    Is your car a manual transmission?
    My 2005 R53 pops out of 2nd gear from time to time when I am coasting and I tap my clutch pedal. This happens as the clutch wears and is getting really close to time to get a clutch replaced.

    I've had cars do that in the past (non-MINI). Replaced the worn syncros & all was well.

    How many miles on your MINI? I'd start by changing the transmission oil.

    It's done 91000 miles a far as I know the gearbox oil has never been changed
