In my mind I can't help but see a pit crew from NASCAR peeling off the Clearplex while Nathan is stopped for a fillup while on the fall leaf run in Southern Ohio.

Those loose stone roads are a Biatch.

 

I was just looking at this last week b/c I happen to have a crack in my windshield and when I get a new windshield I want it to last. Here's a link to the Mini area with pricing.

I have a couple of friends that did this to their new cars along with clear bras. They told me it works great BUT it is not recommended for use on older pitted windshields.

 

What does something like that run?

About time someone figured out a product like that. Hope it works.

 

Just bumping this up to ask a related question: Has anyone else noticed how insanely easy these windshields chip/pit? I understand the mini has a fairy tall windshield as far as angles go. But I honestly did not expect to get new chips and pits every single time I'm on the highway with my car I've owned less than a month. Less than a month and noticeable sized chips are almost in the double digits... honestly would have been a deal breaker on buying a car if someone told me it needs a monthly windshield replacement...

 

It's because of the Minis tall windshield and how low we are compared to everything else on the road nowadays. (SUV's, Minivans, trucks)

It also helps if you don't tailgate people. :lol::lol::lol::lol:

 

It just bugs me that the only protective film on the market....is almost the same price as the windshield replacement itself. And then installing it myself at that price.

Unlike most cars, I think the MINI windshield is a wear item...

Our Roadster kicked up a rock yesterday on a run, and left a good sized chip in the R53 behind us watching her wing go up down to closely. She took a hit that I saw hovering in front of us, left a very tiny chip, which would have likely been much bigger on anything other then a R58/59.

 

I'm on my second windscreen. The first was so badly pitted that when the sun was low it was very hard to see through. The new one at 2 years old is on its way to replacement. Yep a wear item for sure.

 

Does insurance pay for that? On my old Subaru I had the windshield replaced for a relatively minor crack, free of charge. Well, I have to pay the insurance company of course, but they didn't charge me anything extra to have a guy come out and swap it.

My MINI is five, and it seems that it could probably use one, though no real sizable pits or cracks to speak of. Just the tiny pitting that looks weird under certain lighting conditions.

 

Insurance paying depends on your policy & company. Call your agent & ask them. What works for me may not for you.

 

Progressive is by far the cheapest for me, and have been good to me for a while.... BUT, their glass policy sucks ass. If you have some chips that can be repaired, it gets repaired free of charge, no deductible. But a crack that requires replacement means you pay your full comp deductible.
