several months ago I decided to install in iPad mini as my head unit. all the sound and steering wheel functions were preserved by keeping the OEM head unit and just relocating it to the glove box. Hope you enjoy the photos.
I would love to see a write-up. Especially with the mounting. And what diagnostics app are you running?
This is definitely a great idea, but does anyone else notice how the screen is crystal clear while the row of switches is decidedly not in focus?
Good catch. I first saw this post on my phone, so I really didn't pay attention to the details. There's no way I know to get a shot like that just by adjusting depth-of-field and focus in the camera, so IMHO the image has been manipulated by Photoshop or some other program. That's not a bad thing, especially since the OP (Check his screen name again!) promotes himself as a "Photographer and Image Manipulator" (and seems to be pretty good at it), but I'm not going to believe the installation exists until I see the details.
Are you guys serious? You think this is fake. I shot this at f/1.4 which means the depth of field is extremely shallow. Here are a couple of mobile phone photos during the process.
I see how this could be done and by looking at the pictures it is in no way fake. If you look you can see he moved the heater controls down to the bottom and tilted them back. This allowed him to make the space for the iPad Mini. As he posted the head unit was relocated to the glove box.
No need to take offense as none was meant, just noticed that the image looked a bit out of sorts. Still would love to see a write-up on this.
I knew it was real. If you look at the photo you could see the the carbon fiber down tubes next to the the iPad were in focus. F1.4 is very shallow and at this angle would cause the blurre. Photography is one of my long time hobbys. What app are you running on the iPad. I've been using Rev on my iPhone but the gauges in Rev don't look as good as what your using.
On the other hand, the left front area of the shift boot also appears to be in focus, which probably shouldn't be at that depth of field and point of focus - or other elements of the photo in the same plane should be in focus too. Just my $.02 after working in the publishing industry a long time. I'm not saying this project isn't real. What I really want are details on how the head unit was relocated, the frame that holds the iPad and the functions this installation allows. It looks like lots of good ideas to steal!
A write up would be awesome. Looks like a very cool mod. But I would be annoyed if my passengers wanted to play candy crush or something.
