So im new here and i just needed some insight. I currently own a 2013 Mini s countryman with 94k miles on it. I got it at around 92k miles so i havent been in it too much, but i'm in love with it. My question is that im moving half way across the country and is it worth it to ship the car to the new place? or at its mileage to sell it and pick something new up when im down there? It's previous owner had taken great care of it and it runs extremely well in my experience.
Whenever you buy a used car, you are potentially getting a new set of problems. If your car is still in good condition, 92K miles really isn't that much by today's standards. My 2005 car has over 160K miles (converted from 260K kms) and I put on 20K kms this year alone. It's still running strong. However if you are not all that crazy about your car and it is costing you a lot to keep it running, then I would consider changing cars. This is the opinion of somebody who usually buys his cars new and keeps it until it costs more to keep it running than buying another new car.
My 08 R56 S has 160,000+ miles on it. I tend to keep cars forever, the old Subaru had 225,000 on it when I sold it.
EVERYTHING the above two guys have said is true and I guess I am no exception. A used car is a gamble, but even used cars can be gems if they had had good care with their previous owners. How well they age after YOU own them depends on the care YOU give them. That said, since you are concerned tells me that you care about your car and the miles already on it. However, by MINI standards your car is not even broken in yet! You should have many more miles to go.
Agree on the used car comments. Also, you can ship the car for around $500 (if memory is correct). If you know the car, like it and it runs well I would say keep it. Also - welcome to MA.
First...welcome to the modness. I would keep what you have and enjoy it. Properly MAINTAINED, your car should last for as long as you want to keep it. Maintenance is the key. Not maintaining can lead to a lot of expensive problems. Find a good independent shop and stick with them as they are usually much cheaper than a dealer. If you do have a problem, we are here to help.
The cheapest car you can buy is the one you already own. Why ship it? MINIs are great hiway cars, drive it there!
If you love keep the car. Sounds like time for a foad trip. It’s the journey, not the destination, that counts. Welcome to MA
