Sorry for the late reply ! Well after that episode at the stealership I wrote a scathing letter to their service manager about how annoyed I am with them for trying to take me for a ride and rip me off whenever I require their intervention and he contacted me to patch things up and has given me an appointment for Apr.28 to have the car linked up to their computer (with me hopefully watching the proceedings...at least that's what I will be insisting upon) at a much reduced price. I will let you know of the outcome.

Yeah the hard left in to the Med Sea on the way to MOTD might cause a few issues with the MINI

Not necessarily..... It's kind of like skipping a stone on water. It's all in attaining the proper entry speed and then maintaining that speed. It helps if you have an "S" and better if you have a fJCW.....:D

PS...... Don't try this Justa Jim.... Justa saying....:D

    Hello Folks,

9 months down the line and 4 trips to the stealership and I am still without this function !! :mad2:

The service manager at the stealership, although being a helpful chap, has not managed to enable the function. Every time he links my Mini up via chunky-looking cables to a weird-looking BMW computer of theirs and the function is never there to be found in the program they have on this computer. In each of the four attempts he has claimed that BMW provided him with four different programs and still no joy. BMW have told him that since it's a 10 year-old car they don't not feel obliged to offer support on software...how's that for customer service !! ::mad5:

Can anyone please tell me to what type of garage / technician can I take my car to try and get this function enabled privately ? What sort of equipment should this garage /technician have to do this job ?

    Please help !

    Where are you located?

Pretty much any shop that does BMW / MINI work that has a GT1 type device should be able to program the options.

My 06 does this as well. OP, it may have been something added in the '04 refresh that's not possible with your '02.

Call Way - he does this sort of reprogramming all the time.

I just read through the manual and this is one of the items it says can be "activated/deactivated".

Is the only way to do any of these things is go to the dealer and pay them?

Other cars I have had have allowed you to change things by doing a sequence of steps. Like programming the universal garage opener.

Thanks Chuck. The one thing driving my nuts is when the doors lock automatically when the car is started.

Yep Dave, mine did it too! I guess I am now retracting my statement from post number 15. My statement in post number 19 stands.
