Lots of Pic's from last night, just edited in the phone but I think that's enough for now... More coming...
Today was about the lights... That's all I've got for now, and the rain just stopped! Back to work!:beer
You've come a long way from when I first saw the car in early July and it's looking better with each new step! I can't wait to see it at next year's MOTD!
Those tires still have just under half tread... When I get the stickers printed and cut, I will get a couple extras made for you. Since you own the site and all... Last night I was out here in the garage until 1:00 AM... Tonights not looking any different!
Well today took care of a good chunk of getting an engine running in it... Plus a little bit in the looks department! I am going to fade some spots on the tail light tint tonight and re-clear them tomorrow morning... Also decided on some mods to the rear bumper that I was on the fence about. In my mind it looks sweet, and that has worked out great so far!
I've been watching this thread for awhile. Frankly, I was similar to someone who posted early on saying that he didn't get it. But, I can see what this is now. A work of art. Incredibly creative. I hope to personally see this piece of work rolling down the highway one day.
I like the fact that you carried some of the rust to the dash, but those seats are looking a little to new and comfy for a rat rod. Its looking great, cant wait to see it finished.
You have done a great job! If I ever need my Mini painted I'm sending it to you! Just no rust please.
I stay away from standard resprays, which is why I never went to doing paint & body full time... If you want to go TOTALLY NUTS, and get creative, give me a call! I actually have another paint job thought out, just no car to put it on... Can we say WWII bomber.
I ordered the front bumper lower valance and arch pieces from eMINIparts today! Still got to get a ton of plastic fastener clips, and the chrome trim for everything. Found the front chrome pieces through a off brand dealer for under $40 for both pieces, but none of them have the big strip for the rear! Looks like I will have to spend the $100 that a new OE one costs. Works out in a way though because I wont be doing anything with the rear trim, the front on the other hand... Well, what can I say.
Forget chrome - maybe you need the lower rear bumper panel (the exhaust surround) in Chili Red from an R56 JCW that now has the GP 2 tunnels. I know where you can get one, like new, just for the cost of shipping. Imagine the thrill you'd feel showing your bright rear end to everyone you blast past - sort of like a baboon mooning everyone! And just consider what DaveDotZero would say about a 2nd-gen part on Isobell...
$89 from ECS (+ shipping to probably bring it right up to 100 ) expensive piece of plastic, but worth it if you need it to bring everything together.
The rear lower apron from the standard "S" or GP bumper fits right onto the mustache bumper... Just so happens, I have an "S" bumper so all of that trim is already on. I would like to get the GP apron and arches, but with the price they still want for that piece, it can wait. Not going to be putting a diffuser on it for a couple reasons... Mostly the look of having a diffuser wouldn't look quite right with the car, and I might run into some clearance issues with the exhaust when I redo it.
