This one is making it around the web, Dick I thought you might do this engine swap versus the Stroker. [ame="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SFAY6br9Dbc#t=24"]MINI DRAG CAR HD 720p - YouTube[/ame]
Yesterday, I picked up a side project to go along with the car... Any car show goer knows how much crap they regularly haul around the show. Chairs, snacks, adult beverages, or just random stuff brought to or bought at the show... I spent a few months looking for an old small steel wagon in rebuildable shape, but gave up due to how much people wanted for one, or they were the larger models that wont fit in the back of a MINI. Yesterday however, the neighbor down the street set a perfect starting point on the sidewalk with a big cardboard sign that said FREE! So I jumped on it! Its a 24" basket, with the big balloon tires, but needs a good bit of work... PERFECT! A custom fabricated tube frame is in order, which I am going to build to brake down into 3 pieces. That way I can stretch the monster truck wheelbase, and drop the basket down into the grass, yet still have it transportable in the car. Everything will be painted to match the Rat-MINI once the fab work is done, and I am going to ditch the monster truck tires for something a bit wider, and with less tread. Its going to be a fun little project over the winter once I am done with the car, and waiting on parts. Here is what it looked like... And it will be turning into something like this...
Just wait until you see the latest stuff Dick has done to his motor. It looks really cool. :eek6:opcorn:
Yeah you are but its all good. Just take a loooooooong road trip in the Spring. Others from Cali have in the past. :ihih:
Very tempting! There's some "hidden" gems here, as well. Perhaps we will have to do a rotation or two.
Yeah, I haven't updated the thread in a couple weeks... My Friday and Saturday nights have been spent out in the garage, until 1-2 AM getting stuff done while its still warm. By the looks of the new donor motor, you wouldnt think it came from a scrapper! Lets just hope it runs just as good. I pulled it apart as much as I could without cracking open the head gasket, or pulling the rod bolts, and everything seems to be in order to run it, so I dont have any doubt it will make the 3000+ mile round trip to Fontana in April. I still have some stuff to replace before it goes in but the worst is over! I am aiming for it being under the hood by Halloween... I'll get a few pics up before the weekend.
Well guys, I was hoping do do a decent update this weekend with all the work I did... Unfortunately very minimal work got done... Ok so 5 bolts and 3 hoses came off. Just enough to get the radiator/support off so I could make a bunch of measurements and start building the framing for the I/C diverter. But I didnt even get the tape measure out of my work bag... I did however, get caught up on the yard work, replaced the hot water heater, and striped the 40 year old wall paper out of the upstairs hallway, and hooked it up with some fancy paint. Back to the diverter though... There isnt as much room as I thought there was, but the only changes I need to make to my plan is to shorten the height. It is still going to be a very small space in the diverter, but the stock plastic stuff is all in the same area and it works, so it should work out fine. Still cant wait until I build a front mount I/C setup for the stroker... What is very little space for an I/C is actually a good bit of room for piping, and a custom short runner/large plenum intake manifold.
So you're using Meth injection, pre-charger style?? What kind of set-up are using, and how hard is it to get it all hooked up? It's looking really nice, mate. I love that pic of the meth hook-up with the rear of the MINI in the background. Looks beast, especially the exhaust. And the contrast of shiny engine+nasty car is striking and, I dare say, pretty. XD
Meth is injected post S/C and I/C I am going to scale my nozzle size way down and see how it does that way for a little bit. The kit is just a cheapie Alcohol Injection Systems.com kit... Eventually everything but the tank will be replaced with a Howerton/Aquamist setup, because the controller, pump, and nozzles SUCK! For now I am just going to use what I already have though. I dont remember any problems that came up during the install but that was 4 years ago! Some of the parts gave me headaches for a while though.
