I think it is far enough ahead to call it... So I guess it's off to Kristan over the weekend to get the masking vinyl cut. Tomorrow... More body work.
I will get some up tonight! Anyhow, I woke up this morning and started thinking again... (I know, theres your first mistake...) All along I was going to shave out the side scuttle vents in the front fenders, well after thinking for a few months about how to do it, I decided not to. Doing that requires changing all the mounting points on the top half of the fender, and the cowl, then caping the wire for the side marker light. Then having no room to actually get the nuts on the back side. In short it would be a huge pain in the ass to just get rid of a hole, so its not really worth it. So I am going to head to the paint shop and get some more rust brown, and maybe a little Laguna Green... Got all weekend, who knows what all could happen.
The easiest way to do this, and still be productive at it, is going to be a mass picture update at the end of the day with a crappy phone pic here and there. The primer on the passenger quarter and door is leveled out to factory, and ready for rust... Got to wheel it back in the garage and get it done! The color coats are going to be: Laguna Green on the quarter, and Kite Blue (Bayswater special edition color) for the door. Not sure if I will get that far today, but we will see.
All 6 stages of rust are on those two panels... Went a little overboard on the dramatic effects! Got to give it a good hour or so before I can do a light coat of primer, then the color...
Primed! Going to set it in the sun since its in the mid 70's and bake it on. Doing that will let me mask the different panels for the different color coats. Mmmm.... Rust bubbles...
NOPE! I am anti vinyl, and you cant paint the glass. It is going on the doors in typical post-war hotrod style. No sleezy tribal graphic stickers for this guy!
Na not my thing... The Kite blue is on the door, and lookin SICK! Glad I payed the extra for that color.
No good pics tonight, its too late to go through all the editing. Tomorrow, I might get the hood, and a couple little pieces shot. I am finding it extremely difficult to not touch the door yet... Hopefully I can get the vinyl cut quick so I can get rolling on it.
Man, can't wait to see this done. But, don't let our impatience rub on you. Masterpieces take time. The ultimate compliment would be having the dilemma of identifying real rust, should they sent in.....
Waiting on the innards of the new hood to dry, so I can flip it over and do the outside... The one piece that is staying shiny, and rust free... Its Silk Green with a brown candy coat.
Better pic's of the front... It has been a good weekend, with a big step in the right direction.:beer
