Sounds like the timing was getting greatly retarded for some reason (heat, gas, engine noise). I read somewhere that even with 91 octane gas the timing can get retarded.
If you can find a way to log the car while the 'problem is happening', then that would provide a wealth of info for troubleshooting... We've been able to help our customers trouble-shoot quite a bit of issues in identifying "mystic" problems via the use of the Data-logging feature in FA53 kit... and quite a few that the owners didn't know that they had b/c the ecu had 'adapted' and found a work-around to compensate for the problem(s). Just a thought...
I recently had a similar problem with sluggish throttle response. It turned out to be the little vacuum hose that connects the manifold to the widget at the end of the fuel rail. This hose had burst in the middle, leaving a huge hole. When I replaced the hose, everything went back to normal, and the engine has "zip" again.
Yes it does. I asked at the dealer about this and they were kind enough to track it down with MINI HQ. I asked cause when I bed in new pads I used to left foot brake while mashing the throttle, but this don't work with the MINI.
Mike, i promise the FA53 is on my wish list of things to buy, so no need to upsell it to me lol. Mike, thanks, and that makes a lot of sense. If the fuel pressure isnt up like it needs to be depending on the load, then ofcourse it wouldnt "feel" right. Hopefully i will be able to crack it open tonight after work. Thanks for the input guys !
Two phrases, four words. 1) BEYOND FRUSTRATED 2) TRACTION CONTROL Ive relied on the Ians module for the last two years to turn off the DSC everytime my car is started, and for some reason the DSC part of the module disabled itself... Ohh well, got it figured out.
Sorry to hear the anti-nanny device was somehow overcome by nanny. Pop another one in & let it kick nanny's arse. At least it is an easy fix.
So many things have been devised to protect people from themselves, when all they really need to do is learn to actually drive. I find most of them annoying. Jim
Glad you resolved the problem. Was the DSC light still turning on when you started the car, as it should be with the DSC Disabled, or did you just not notice that the DSC light was off and turning on momentarily when it kicked into action? As a user of a 7 year old Auto-Up circuit card I am curious about the failure mode so I do not get tricked by the same failuer mode.
Ehhh, i am not jumping to the conclusion that the module is bad. I think it is still perfectly fine, and was just a case of someone screwing with things. I reset it and all is working properly now. The auto-up feature never ceased though, and i only noticed the DSC a day or two after i got home. Honestly, i have no idea if the light was coming on, as it was a really hectic day. Being a co-driver car on a super short course we were having NASCAR style pit-stops. (checking tire pressures, tire temps, re-adjusting seat and harness, etc.) Thanks to everyone for chiming in though. Ohhh FYI, i tested the left-foot brake theory, and my car does not have one. I was able to pull through the brakes, and even load the engine w/ heavier braking. My throttle is still very much active while brakes are being applied.
