The brakes came off my totaled 09 JCW. The fronts are on with no problems. But the rears seam to be a little odd. I thought rears rotors where the same on both cars. When the rears are installed the rotor is to small. Not sure what is up.

Chuck. Yes I picked up minimark's r53 from him. So far I have drive the car about a 1/2 mile and now it sets in jack stands going under the moder knife. I really have to say thanks again to mark for taking such good car of my mini. It's turning into a love a fair.

For the parking brake cable, drop the exhaust and heat shield, pull the console between the seats; not a big deal. The problem is there is still a clearance issue with the hard line section.

I don't see how a banjo end on the fluid line would have room either. Not only is there limited head room, but the caliper will need to move inward as the pad wears, parts would need to be ground or cut either way. I haven't tried the banjo, but I have been there for the standard line, and it was too much trouble. It would be easier if the trailing arms were upgraded also.

My advice is to enjoy the fronts and not worry about the rears. Did you know the pad area is greater on the R53 rears?

 

I didn't realize you could put the R56 JCW fronts on an R53.......thought it was just the standard R56 fronts that would work.

 

With the larger rotor and enough clearance within a wheel, it goes.

So all that is needed is the JCW R56 calipers and rotor?

 

A brake line also.

This OEM Brembo is not well suited for track use. The pistons are too short, and the insulating pad on the end of the pistons, and dust boots, can't tolerate much heat. If intended for looks over performance it's OK.

 

yuck, that's not pretty. i take it the pads are pretty thin?

OEM brembos for other cars generally are decent for the track, but still a step behind stoptech and others.

someday i'll make a caliper bracket for porsche 4 piston brembos, maybe from a boxter. piston sizes and rotor OD are good, no idea what to do about anything else.

Check with Todd at TCE for the brake lines with that fitting.

 

That's the banjo fitting common to the rears of the 2002 car. Later cars did not have them as the hose screwed into the caliper- hence the term "direct thread" on the drop down menu for the others. The banjos on the oe rotor are also a bit odd in that they are M12 thread which is huge!

I think I have this solved for minsane. A stock front hose and an altered version of the R56 rear hose. Not a huge deal, they are M10 however so that eliminated the early hoses...going to have two sets of them should anyone else need one.

 

I am doing this mod to my 06 mcs the problem I am having is the roter from my 06 is about a 1/2 inch to small on the radius. Does the r56 use a different roter then the r 53? Would should I be getting or what am I doing wrong?

 

Mark the Brembos have larger rotors than the R53 JCW brake upgrade, which is the exact same size as the stock R56 rotors. You didn't pull the rotors on your old car too?

You need 316mm x 22mm size.

 

The fronts are done every thing is good there. The problem is in the rear, the rotor seam to small by about 5/8 of an inch on the radius.

 

Side question. What are the brakes you took off?
