The John Cooper Works tuning kit drives the MINI Cooper S Clubman to completely new heights of performance. The kit boosts the output of the Twin Scroll turbocharged engine to 189 hp (SAE) (141 kW). The maximum torque is 185 lb-ft between 1750 and 5000 rpm. In fact, with the over boost function, temporary peak values of as much as 200 lb-ft are possible in the range from 1750 to 4500 rpm. The kit includes for improved power output new air filter housing and new exhaust system which improves exhaust guidance flow. The combination of the new air filter and the exhaust provides sportier interior and exterior sound. For a more aggressive look, the tips of the dual exhaust are significantly larger than the stock exhaust tips. A special ECU programming provides faster throttle response, leading to an increased performance feel. John Cooper Works badging on the front grille, the boot lid and on top of the air filter are obvious signs that the car is powered by a JCW engine. J has an 08 and even with an ECU wishes that Maddie had gotten the JCW package. The stock suspension is wall-oooow-yyyyy! If you rally want to drive the car . . . Go JCW, but that's just my .02
I went with an aftermarket intake and exhaust which improved the sound but after the tune from Way, I was chirping the tires. I would go with the JCW kit only if you must stay OEM.
I agree that you will get more bang for your buck with aftermarket stuff, be it tuna's or hard parts.
One thing to consider is how those things will affect your new car warranty. With some dealers it is OK as long as the parts & installation is done well. Other dealers will try & void your warranty. My dealer has been great about that issue. Best check with yours first if the warranty is important to you.
Going with the JCW tuna & parts should not affect your warranty at all. Decision time. :wink:
One more thought.... Be careful of which exhaust you choose. A sweet sounding exhaust can be quite tiring on a long highway slog. I'd guess the JCW pipes would be a good compromise.
