Hello fellow R58 owners: I have a 2015 R58 S, purchased in Dec 2016, with 906 miles. Love this car. May sell motorcycle, but probably not. I have a lot of remaining warranty, and don't want to F it up. My questions are: Is the JCW tuning kit, a worthy 3K option; and are there any other performance mods, that will not F up the aforementioned factory warranty? Your responses are apprecieted. WmEsq77
Welcome to M/A! If you are serious about adding performance to your S, talk to Jan [Revolution Motor Works].
Welcome to M/A... Are you talking about this? Short answer...... Depends... #1 It's way overpriced for what you get... Jan at RMW can do a ECU tune for way less... #2 If you want to maintain your warranty... A) Depends on your dealer, they may not like it if you change your ECU away from OEM factory tune. But depends on what you would be claiming on your warranty... B) Depends on your dealer, they may not have an issue if you change your tune. But depends on what you would be claiming on your warranty... C) Switch back to your OEM factory tune if you have a warranty claim...
That's a lot of money for what you get. Make friends with your dealer to see if they are mod friendly, some are. My local dealer had no issues with the mods I'd done on my now gone R53. Since you own an R58 keeping the warranty intact is a very good idea. :yesnod: Welcome to M/A
My dealer sold me my R53 with mods still on it and still honored the warranty. Check with your dealer.
I put the JCW tuning kit on our prior R55 and happy with the results. The kit includes exhaust manifold, cat back exhaust, and tune. At a 25% discount, the cost was practically a wash between the JCW factory kit and piece-meal after market*, so I went with the kit. Plus, the car was under warranty at the time and these aren't the most reliable engines so that was a factor too. Sold the car just before warranty expired. *At the time, RMW did not offer a tune for the N18 motor, so the only other proven option was from Manic. Sounds like RMW may have one available now, based on prior comments, so you have options. Like every stock MINI, adding more power is a good thing. So pick a package and go for it.
