The OEM BOV can have problems with the rubber / plastic diaphragm rupturing and doing exactly what yours did...

I went with the GFB DV, which replaces the flexible diaphragm with aluminum and brass components. The thing I liked about this design is it uses the oem solenoid to activate the BOV. The ECU can't detect a change so no error codes are thrown.... It stays happy...

I changed out the OEM BOV 2 years ago and I've had no issues running the unit....

Coo that's the one I was leaning towards. Do they come with different springs?

I was thinking that since there is only about 90% of the DV in my possession that something would have almost certainly come in contact with the compressor wheel in there.

Is there an "easy" way to pull the compressor housing off to look at the blades without removing the turbo? I'm scared of removing and installing my downpipe/exhaust again.

    No extra springs...

The difference between it and the OEM unit...

Guapish_Fliver - Sorry that happened, I would have to think it's worth a close inspection.

Metalman - interesting, thanks for posting. I was trying to figure exactly what the overall part is and how it worked.. good stuff.

Aaaaaand bought. I figure with 130,000+ miles on mine it's a good idea to take care of this before it's too late.

    Plus, TOY! ;)

    Congratz....

Relatively easy to install.... Just one of the allen screws (3 hold it on) was tough to get to.... You kind of have to feel for it... Took me about 30 minutes to do.... Don't forget to add a little oil (synthetic of course) to the brass / silicone piston.

I assume you saw this video.... If not, here it is... easy assembly...

    Thanks!

I'd seen GFB parts talked about on Mighty Car Mods, and had been toying with this in my head for a while now. Seeing the carnage in the OP along with your recommendation really made up my mind.
