You could always work at Home Depot or Lowes until you get settled in and find a good contractor to work for.

I've done jobs like that before and find them so boring I cant do it! And they start out at like $10 an hour if your lucky... Not enough to live on.
I think something should be able to pop up in the timeframe I am thinking... (Got to pay the Jeep off first, and still have a couple years on that) Now if I could find a contractor that pays well (I know they are out there, I was started at G.E. Johnson at $17 an hour, and got a couple more once they figured out I knew what I was doing a couple weeks later) then I might be able to relocate earlier, but there are a lot of variables that go into it. -

I understand Dick, good luck on the relocation / job search.

Knoxville has some suburbs on US 129 near the Dragon, like Alcoa [where the aluminum foil and all are made] as well as Maryville. you could do a search on local industry there.... Just offering an opinion....

Also quite a few colleges around that area Tenn/NC line and they are always expanding. Probably have some of their own crew.. May or may not pay the greatest but would most likely have very good benefits.. I hope you don't mind the Tenn Vols orange if you plan to live in the Knoxville area. It is everywhere!!! College town of course, but has a great down town area near the football stadium with lots of beer pubs!!! and sites that are still standing from the World's Fair in 1982..( yep I was there )

Good luck in the search, 2 years will go by fast, so take what you find when you find it.
You did see my cross-posting on FB to your account, in good humor of course.
I see you managed to rile Teena, no bueno.
Can't say your wrong, CO is going weird very weird. Not everyone can hide in the mountains and those I know that work in the mountains work their butts off and do not really enjoy....

You can always look in USAJOBS.GOV to see if there are any federal jobs in your field for that area.

Don't leave us here!!!!!
That goes for me too! I was so excited to think we might have a legitimate DENVER CONVOY from now on to MOTD! What an EPIC time that was!!! But I don't blame you AT ALL! Yuk! I'm grossed out constantly...whoops, a rant.
Oh! I looked at cabins around Fontana to buy. Perhaps we can be neighbors in a couple of years. I Love the southern charm and the beauty of the area.........the roads are wicked and I'd love to have the Dragon as my back yard!!! (still working on my husband to invest in a cabin out there.)
But until then,
when you settle,
can we bunk with you around MOTD time?:biggrin5::biggrin5::biggrin5::biggrin5: -

Charlotte, Greenville, and Atlanta is within reach, also.
-
Charlotte is a great town, if you want a more urban area as your launching point to the mountains or the ocean. We spent some time there earlier this year, checking it out a a place for our college student to land after graduation. The MINI community is pretty strong too.

Blech. Might be OK to spend some time in (I do almost every week), but I would NEVER want to live there. Asheville, however... is awesome. But NC has personal income tax, unlike TN. -

Depends on how much the tax is... Still might be worth a look.

Since you know how to weld. Check out some of the big sign companies in the areas. They have to have alum and steel welders.. Vinyl guys as well. The bigger companies should be starting you at around your needs plus might get some OT as well...
Heck you know how to paint they need that as well.. -

Dick,
I've used Indeed.com to find jobs. Type in the town, city or state and a couple of key words like welder or construction and you'll get some returns...
Best of luck!
Bill
