Decided that my 2WD 1 Ton Diesel Dually was a poor winter driver during this frigid, snowy winter. That and I'd like it to last to pull my RV far into the future. Looked at lots of used cars and landed upon my new-to-me 2004 Mini Cooper S. Wasn't sure it was my 'style' but after a bit more than a week, I'm hooked and looking at what I need to do at 125K miles to make sure I can keep it rolling as long as possible. So much fun to drive. In keeping with the apparent trend of naming one's MCS, I've named him Newton (as I'm a direct descendant of Sir Isaac Newton) and it just seemed to fit. I don't know what R# this year/model is, so I used standard terminology. It's a blue 6 speed manual, with white roof, mirrors and crackled racing stripes. Love the heated seats. Any advice on what to focus my near term attention on, relative to preventive maintenance or just constructive advice is greatly appreciated.
Welcome, thanks for joining Motoring Alliance, the FUN and Friendly MINI Community. You have an R53. That would a be 1st generation Cooper S.
Welcome to world of M/A! We are here to help. That said, your MCS is an R53, first Gen, and I'm sure you'll have many fun miles with it!
Welcome to the fun and lots of miles of smiles! First thing I've done when buying any pre-owned vehicle is change the oil & of course filter. Check all fluid levels, then check them again after driving for 100 miles. Have the alignment checked, along with all belts, hoses, the battery & charging system and coolant range. Also, check with MINI or a dealer with the VIN to see if there are any open recalls. And make sure to drive it often and with gusto!
