Between the DB-Drag competitions in highschool, always having loud exhausts on my cars, and 11 years in the army, I have a whole 30% of my hearing left... Being deff is no fun. [emoji6]

On another note...
Good thing you caught it when you did! Your crank pulley is chewing into your oil pump housing!
All the oil is normal... Could be the Cam sensor O-ring, Pan gasket, or front main seal.
Going to have to reschedule painting some F56 stuff, but we'll get it back up and going next weekend, unless you want to pull an all nighter this Saturday night. [emoji12][emoji482] -

I spent 5 years next to the left speaker bank of southern rock bands. I can hear you talking...but I don't understand what you are saying. It is called a loss of hearing 'distinction'. Hearing aids do little to help a 'distinction' problem. I know...I wear 2 of them. Now...about exhausts.
The next mod I wil make to 'Pepper' is an exhaust. All the information I seem to find judges exhaust systems by the noise or tone the exhaust makes. No one seems to talk about ' back pressure', i.e. how 'free flowing' is the exhaust system. I have a 15% pulley and a DDM CAI. My understanding is that if you increase the efficiency of the gas/air mixture going into an engine, a free flowing exhaust will increase the efficiency of the exhaust in making the engine breath better.
Anyone know what exhaust system has the least 'back pressure'. I can always turn off my hearing aids -
Look into an aftermarket crank Balancer. ATI is a mechanical/Fluid type ( they do sell a rebuild kit) and the fluidGel type that never needs rebuild. Both are SFI rated and really a good thing when the revs start .

He's been in hiding so long that he probably forgot...
But then again, Thumper never officially carried the ATI, just the FluiDamper. -

Add working around flight-lines and missiles to the mix.
I like a good sounding loud exhaust, but drone... not so much. -

I have a straight pipe of sorts. Got the cat up front, then a straight pipe that splits into 2 Mustang center mufflers. It's loud but no drone. For the state test down there I pack fiber glass into the center mufflers.

Hey all. I was messing around on Ebay tonight, and came across electric exhaust cut-out controls.
Here's what I'm thinking (And I DO NOT completely understand why a straight-pipe resonates in the R53, so bear with me).
If I were to incorporate an electric exhaust cut-out in a straight pipe, would shutting the valve also stop the resonance? It seems to be a pipe length issue, so wouldn't opening and closing the valve essentially shorten/lengthen the pipe, thus cutting out resonance? So basically I could drive with it open all the time, then simply shut it off for highway cruising/when I don't want that added noise.
Just let me know. -
Alright guys. Appreciate the answers. I know it has to be engineered one way or the other, but it seems like a valve can be messed with it at different intervals and "play" with the sound a little, maybe setting it right. Plus it'd be so very easy to move the restriction plate up or down the exhaust to keep changing the sound even more.
Oh well. There went my hopes and dreams for an amazing exhaust. Hahaha -
I may just build one and see how it goes, then sell it or only use it occasionally like Dave does. I've got a friend-of-a-friend who does custom exhausts, so I'm sure he could do it for me one the semi-cheap. Especially if I supply parts for the whole thing which should come in at well under $300, based off of what I'm seeing.
Mind you, this is still a few months off, I'm just thinking out loud. -
