I have huge tires on my Mini and that thing HOOKS. I get a lot of torque steer (I have no idea why... since the superchargers aren't really torquey..) on the higher end of 5-6k RPM in 2nd gear, but otherwise, tires make a hell of a difference compared to my old R53. Seriously, HUGE difference.

Your mini is already looking sleek as all h*ll!

It's nice to see younger guys getting into the Mini.

Ok, so Milltek is recommended. Got it. I'm still very tempted to go with a straight pipe, but I do see how it could maybe get old. I dunno though. The louder the better in my opinion. And there are no noise ordinances where I live either.

Thanks for the compliment, good sir. It looks way better with the current tires on it. That's odd, I have NO torque steer to speak of really. I do have the LSD though.

And it is fun to see my age people getting into MINIs. All my friends really like it.

You've ridden in my car... You know how loud a straight pipe is on an R53!

Honestly its even too much for me to handle anymore, which is why its on the list of things I am changing...

Miltek is top notch, but there are other and cheaper options... At the end of the day the 1/2 price POS from China is going to free up the same amount of power, its the durability and sound that you're paying for.

It's not just the loudness, it's the drone. Great way for quick hearing loss.

Many have tried, no one has pulled it off on a street car. Don't waste your money.

Issue; I got code P1688, limp mode, all that. What would be symptoms of crank shaft pulley vs. BPV?? I'm not driving it right now until I fix it, I just want to know what to do to check. If ya'll read my build so far you'll see that I did change the alternator and pulley and everything, so possible cause? Just lemme know. Thanks all.
Also, the little black arm on the BPV, I can move it with my hand quite easily from the screw and back, but it does snap back into place. I think that's the proper way to check it, so that's something to add.

I prefer my JCW exhaust, sans resonator, and my music. But then, I'm older...

My setup is similar, magnaflow up front, JCW cans in back, not too loud at low RPMs, sounds great at high no drone at all. I'll probably replace the rear cans with Milltek if I can find just the back half, or maybe put custom twin cans in the back, so I can get 2.5 diameter all the way through--I go 2.5 to the JCW split at present.

I know how loud it is, Dick, and I love it. I dunno. I may do it and end up selling it. We'll see. But I do appreciate the warnings. I'll be handing out "You told me so" cards in a year or two I'm sure. Haha.

Dick I may buy yours from you, and change it up a bit. Lemme know when you plan on getting rid of it.

So my crank damper pulley is bad. But Dick's gonna help me out with repairing it.

cct1, that sounds like a good setup. Honestly I really don't think it's something I'll tire of. I love a good drone. Haha. Remember, I am still young and stupid and like loud cars.

    ::EDIT:: Named wrong part

The only people I've ever heard say "I love drone" don't really know what it is, and haven't owned a car that did it.

Drone is when the exhaust's resonant frequency makes the entire car resonate like you're inside a subwoofer. It does not sound "good" or "loud". It just makes your head HURT. BADLY.

What you really want is a loud exhaust with no drone. Which is what I have... Miltek with catless RMW header. And mine blows flames out the back.

Blimey is right about the drone. I've had cars in the past that drone on the highway it's unbearable. I've had loud cars and I've driven behind Nathan.:eek6:

Value your hearing. Take it from someone that didn't. "What did you say"

Between the DB-Drag competitions in highschool, always having loud exhausts on my cars, and 11 years in the army, I have a whole 30% of my hearing left... Being deff is no fun.

    On another note...

Good thing you caught it when you did! Your crank pulley is chewing into your oil pump housing!

All the oil is normal... Could be the Cam sensor O-ring, Pan gasket, or front main seal.

Going to have to reschedule painting some F56 stuff, but we'll get it back up and going next weekend, unless you want to pull an all nighter this Saturday night.

I spent 5 years next to the left speaker bank of southern rock bands. I can hear you talking...but I don't understand what you are saying. It is called a loss of hearing 'distinction'. Hearing aids do little to help a 'distinction' problem. I know...I wear 2 of them. Now...about exhausts.

The next mod I wil make to 'Pepper' is an exhaust. All the information I seem to find judges exhaust systems by the noise or tone the exhaust makes. No one seems to talk about ' back pressure', i.e. how 'free flowing' is the exhaust system. I have a 15% pulley and a DDM CAI. My understanding is that if you increase the efficiency of the gas/air mixture going into an engine, a free flowing exhaust will increase the efficiency of the exhaust in making the engine breath better.

Anyone know what exhaust system has the least 'back pressure'. I can always turn off my hearing aids :) :)

The OEM header / cat are the primary bottlenecks on these cars. Changing the exhaust without a high-flow header and cat will add virtually no power.

HOWEVER... if you add a really free flowing header (e.g. RMW) then the OEM exhaust becomes the bottleneck. Any of the 2.5" exhausts will flow better than stock. Miltek is a very good choice. And my butt dyno indicated a noticeable difference between my old JCW exhaust and the Miltek, with all else being equal (I already had the RMW header).

Of course, there are other bottlenecks that are limiting flow more than the exhaust... head, cam....

As for drone, I echo what's been said: If you think you like drone, then you've never actually heard drone. It's unbearable; I've yet to find a single person who enjoys it. 15 minutes of it on the highway and you're ready to drive into the nearest guardrail at the highest possible speed.

Look into an aftermarket crank Balancer. ATI is a mechanical/Fluid type ( they do sell a rebuild kit) and the fluidGel type that never needs rebuild. Both are SFI rated and really a good thing when the revs start .
