Ok, so I am getting married in early August. The lady and I are just eloping down to Hocking Hills for quick little thing, then a few days of hiking and hum... Anyway, since we decide that we were going to do very informal thing, we get to be a little creative. She has a very nice and def not a traditional dress. But when she asked what I wanted to wear, my first few suggestions were shot down in flames pretty fast. Stormtrooper armor? NO! Stormtrooper armor with a kilt? **** NO! I was feeling a little discouraged after that one, it would have been fun. How about I wear a kilt and combat boots? And surprisingly her answer was yes. I was a little shocked. We tried this for a friends wedding and we were told absolutly not as the bride was afraid we would get drunk and flash the reception. So my question here is, does anyone around this fine forum have any advice other than to wear it traditionally? I really like the Utilikilts, but damned if they arent pretty pricy.
Dunno about Scottish, but there is a lot of Irish back in the family. The Irish use the kilt as well, though they do not use a tartan pattern as those belong to the Scottish clans. I just think it would be a fun deviation from the standard wedding. And Ive been involved in enough of those to hate them. Plus its just me and the lady, so we thought we would have some fun with it.
The Oatmeal is freaking hilarious, no question. And that guy is a little scary. I mean that pic almost screams, "You gonna get raped.", lol.
This is what "Johnny" Van Zant of Lynyrd Skynyrd would have looked like if he was Scottish and not born in Jacksonville, Florida.:lol::lol::lol::lol::lol:
Irish Kilts Just don't dis the tradition...and...a wee dram translates to; 1. a pint of Guinness or 2. 3 fingers of Jamison in a dirty glass. Éirinn go Bráth!
Ok I'll sit this on out. Sometimes you see something that you really don't want to see. Then it's stuck in your mind and won't go away. That is bad enough but then someone has to disrespect Lynyrd Synyrd. :cornut: Apok if you go with the kilt, please please NO PICTURES. And I don't want to know what you did or did not have on under your kilt! :yikes:
I like Lynyrd Skynyrd. As a matter of fact every year on Monday morning when I drive in to MOTD on 129 from the Knoxville TN side as soon as I see the water I play the Southern National Anthem. Free Bird
MCS02, when I'm piping, what is worn under my kilt is a pair of Lovat green kilt hose a hand made sgian dubh and a pair of black ghillie brogues. Nothing there to get excited about. What is to be exciting about is the silver quaichs tucked in the sporran for that wee dram after.
As a matter of fact, the local retired city fire marshal is in the process of recruiting prospective band members in a three county area to get a firefighter's pipe band organized around here. He's been in the drum corps of a central OK band that makes the annual pilgrimage to the Lewisville TX firefighter's pipe band gathering. He's roped me into helping get any prospective pipers up and running, first meeting is just a couple weeks away. I don't know what it is but there's just something right about pipe bands and firefighters just like Dalmatians belong on fire trucks.
Where is silverbac? He has a kilt, maybe more than one. He might even play the pipes and he's local. Maybe he could play the wedding!
My mind immediately jumped to utilikilts, but it looks like price shot that down. My brother-in-law showed up for knee surgery in one. The folks in receiving chuckled, but when he didn't have to remove the knee braces and hardware to go home, the folks in discharge thought it was the coolest thing ever.
