I would love a Utilikilt, but they are damned pricy. I found another company that makes a similar kilt that has some very promising reviews for about half the price. Maybe Ill get that and if I really like wearing it, Ill just go ahead buy one in the future.
Having a Scot play the pipes for an Irishman's wedding...wouldn't that be like having an Abarth at a MINI event (or a MINI at an Abarth event, depending on your opinion of Scots and the Irish)
Utilikilt all the way. Well made, lasts a long time. Saw one at a BMW (motorcycle) rally years ago, have had one ever since. Expensive? For a wedding? Compared to tux rental, "the ring", reception hall, et al? Maybe, but it might be the least expense of that day ;-) Congrats, best wishes.
Well since we arent doing all the fancy crap, yeah the Utilikilt is still pretty pricey. As said before we are eloping to Hocking Hills and taking nobody with us. Our rings are super reasonable, Im getting titanium, lol. So really the Utilikilt would be the second most expensive thing in the wedding next to the chapel that will be marrying us, lol. We are being kinda cheap, lol!
Kinda cheap, huh? Something you seem to have overlooked while worrying about the cost of 'stuff'. You are hitching yourself to the most expensive thing on the list.....THE BRIDE! But, as long as you can handle the tariff that one will outlast everything else if you take real good care of it.
I already know she is expensive!!! My biggest cost was her engagement ring, and I got a nice deal on a piece of antique estate jewelry and she freaking loves it to no end. But its really more of a can she afford me, lol. I have champagne taste on a beer budget, lol.
Yup, thats what Im saying! I also like gadgets and electronics. I could get in soooo much trouble at MicroCenter, its good I have restraint.
Congrats and have FUN!!! 15 years ago, my fiancée and I decided to get married in Vegas on St. Patrick's day (And yes, he is Irish). Erik and I flew into Las Vegas on March 17 first thing in the morning. Neither of us had ever been to Vegas. After collecting licenses from the courthouse, (that is some of the best people watching a person can do right there) on the cab ride back, we saw a tiny chapel near our hotel and stopped to see if they could fit us in around sunset. They did. To our delight was an Irish minister! She was fantastic... So to you and your bride, "May the road rise to meet you.May the wind always be at your back. May the sun shine warm upon your face, and the rain fall soft on your fields. And until we meet again, may God hold you in the palm of his hand". If you're going to don a kilt, wouldn't it be EPIC if everyone else attending did too? :biggrin5:
You'll no doubt do this without a piper. I've piped a number of weddings (some funerals, kirkin' o' the tartan, etc. - but no bar mitzvahs yet, alas) so here is a proper march medley extremely well done to see you out of the chapel. 'Mairi's Wedding' and 'The Barren Rocks of Aden'. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bvjn03A3sbw]Canadian Bagpipes - Mairi's Wedding / Barren Rocks of Aden - YouTube[/ame]
When I asked my now father-in-law if I could marry his daughter first he said "you should ask her" then he said "I'll decorate the ladder"
Thank you much. Vegas was the original plan, but we decided that money was better spent on our house. I was the best man at my oldest friends wedding a couple of years ago, and though his wife absolutely forbade us from wearing kilts, she thought we would flash the wedding, she did let us all walk out to the Imperial March. Though we were led to believe that she said no to that, and we didnt know till the music started when we walked out. It was kinda awesome.
