Yeah, it's like he hesitated a second about then ( you see the speedo bobble back and forth ) and then just floored it. Guess after the 1st run he needed to gain speed faster before running out of room...

Meh. Looks slow.

the fast acceleration and early drop off on the first run was likely to minimize the time spent outside of the design threshold of the tires, feeling them out. Even if these were pure race tires and not production run rubber (wouldn't that DQ it from production car status?) this is a serious issue at 400kmh + on public roads that aren't as smooth as they appear at 70mph once you go 5 times that speed. Second run he did the same, but then held on longer to get higher top end, knowing they made it to 270mph. Pretty gutsy to spend that much time above 270 to get that last bit of speed out of it. This wasn't isn't about power and aero, as that could be calculated beforehand, but about the tires not blowing up under the car while proving it can actually do the speed.
If these were production based tires, they probably shaved all the thread the could off those tires to reduce the forces, but this is still the main risk. Even pure race tires that weigh a lot less have issues at higher than 250mph. -

Most all Ultra Performance Car Companies have tires specially made for their vehicles. DOT approved but not something you'll find at Tire Rack...

show me a tire that is rated for 400km/h custom made or not
Tires
Dedicated Michelin Supersport
Unidirectional with asymmetric thread pattern.
Front: 265/35 – 19″ (Y)
Rear: 345/30 – 20″ (Y)
Speed rating: 420+ km/h
that is 261mph
wonder what these cost ... -

Bugatti Veyron tires supposedly cost $25,000 but some of that is because you have to ship your wheels back to the Factory to have them installed.
-
talking about the wheels to get shipped for new rubber - don't ask what those hand made carbon fiber wheels cost to replace when you hit that curb at the McDonalds Drive through.

I took my MINI hardtop down I think it is 95 out of Vegas one year, I managed to peg it at 142, but that road has dips.
I cannot imagine what 284 and change feels like on that blacktop. Kudos to them!
For those who knew my 07, it was not anywhere stock.
