Art -- like beauty -- is in the eye of the beholder.

Definitions don't work because it's all about perception.

Some see beauty where others do not. Some see art where others do not.

Both of these are areas where agreeing to disagree is often the most common possible ground. (I'm quite familiar with this...my late wife was an artist and I more of a scientist...)

Sounds much like Kasimir Malevich and his artwork. The one that always struck me as being very subjective is White on White (http://www.bc.edu/bc_org/avp/cas/fnart/art/20th/painting/malevich1.jpg), painted only by using a different angle brush stroke. There's also his black on white series, which came before White on White.

Love it, hate it, shake your head wondering how people can like it.

I can appreciate a lot of different art, even the really abstract, but understand why some might not have the same appreciation. An example of what I feel is utter crap as far as art goes is work from Robert Courtright. A lot of his work depicting architecture strongly resembles things I brought home from school in first grade for mom to hang on the fridge.

If he's keeping it to the lower body, then I can get it. But to do the entire car, what a waste.

BMW has a long history of commissioning Art Cars. See http://www.usautoparts.net/bmw/artcars/ for a full listing with information about each one. The Art Cars are currently on a worldwide tour. The US displays were this year in LA and NY.

Its true that Art is subjective...but art is really designed in order to create a reaction...whether or not that reaction is positive or negative is redundant because the artist has gotten you to speak out. The only situation where art will ever fail is if it does not garner a reaction.
Therefore, seeing that this MINI is getting everyone here talking, Art is doing its job. I encourage anyone to try to mimic an art piece that seems simplistic and easy...I think you will find it more difficult that you imagine...

PS. smearing feces on a piece of paper and and leaving it to dry does not count...that is just discusting...If you could sculpt a perfect image of the statue of liberty with that feces...then I would be impressed...

It was a gargoyle, not the statue of liberty, but at one point my parents did have a sculpture made of cow manure in the garden. It was a gift from my grandma who at the time was living in Arizona. I guess they play with that kinda stuff down there.
