I have been running the Howerton Engineering kit for 4 years now and it's great at getting rid of carbon even without having a custom tune to run meth. It will not hurt your car to run Meth without a tune. I ran my car without the tune for over a year without any issues on 100% VP M1 Meth. I used to fill my Meth tank every 2 weeks before I was tuned for it and I ran a small jet. (.004)
Now I have been dialed in (RMW tuned) to run Meth and I am running a .008 jet now and I filling the tank twice as much. Some people drive by wire, I drive by smile.
When you are tuned for meth you get to take advantage of the higher octane of methenol and just not it's cleaning and cooling benefits. You will gain some HP but it all depends on the other motor mods you have done to your car. The cooling fuel part is what I care about most, yeah right its the extra HP. Ask any M3 owner in my area, yeah they hate me. :biggrin5:
Since I am tuned to run 100% meth now I really cannot run my car without it and I dont think I would want too, it is that much fun. I also only run Shell or Sunoco 93 octane in my car and I fill my tank (less than a gal.) once a week under normal driving. I fill it once a day when I am at the Dragon. At the Dragon I also run Sunoco race fuel (100 octane) at $7.70 a gallon.
I play hard and run my car hard that's why I built it. I have never had any piston, ring, motor seals, or any other motor problems related to the Meth kit and I have been running 100% Meth for about 4 years now. Now if only the rest of the OEM MINI parts (Belt tensioners) would last the long without failing. Thank God for Chads Detroit Tuned tensioner stop, don't run hard without one.
Ok enough rambling here is the kit I have. HOWERTON ENGINEERING for the WIN!

i think in the name of providing advice i would try to steer people away from using windshield washer fluid...for the few that are just water/meth/color there are more that are more than that and it takes one person not knowing what they are doing to go out and buy the orange de-icer fluid or the bug goo one and blow their motor up
plus to be honest if you have the cash to drop on a HFS system you shouldnt mind the cost of true pure meth -

Is there any benefit or can you run water/meth on a N/A motor (justa)? I've looked around and can't find very much documentation on it.

Oh it has been said before, but it is worth saying again. DO NOT use washer fluid in a meth kit. It's like putting 87 octane in a Ferrari. You paired good money for the kit why cheap out on the meth? -

1) Because some of us buy cheap meth kits.
2) Because some places, it's VERY hard to come by appropriate pure meth\
I'm not arguing hard - I prefer the good stuff, too... and that's all I run now... but there are some reasonably defensible reasons to run the *right* blue wiper fluid... as long as you pay attention. -

Is it possible to install a water/meth kit without changing the stock tune and still see some benefit?
-
stock tune... and the METH!!
When I first installed on my 06... it picked up Hp/Torque by keeping all cool and not waking the 'power killer' Knock Sensor to retard the ign and fatten the the mix to stop the PING/ Knock., and save the pistons..
Here is a run with OEM engine and just a pulley... got some gains AND safety!!
Hope this helped...
Just saying..............................

Sooooo.... With all the issues of running out of methanol when you're out in the boonies (ie "The Dragon").... And all the concerns of substituting washer fluid as a temporary stand in..... Is there a case for running rubbing alcohol (Isopropyl alcohol) in place of meth (wood alcohol)????? Which can be purchased at any Walgreen....
-
I got the windshield washer fluid in Robbinsville one time... the next Dragon I took 2 full gallons of methanol, and then mixed it there at the dragon. I have to admit, sure do use the mess out of that stuff running boost aLL THE TIME..LOL
just SAYING.................

I guess you could use vodka, in a pinch.

I bring about 7 gallons of VP M1 meth to the Dragon.
(1) 5 gallon jug
(1) Spare Small 1 gal. for Day trips
(1) Gallon in the Meth Tank itself.
...and I never leave Fontana for a run without out topping off the Meth Tank. what fun would that be.running 100 octane race fuel with no Meth.
Its true you do not need to be tuned to run Meth but if you are you can switch tunes if you have a program flash tool. You can run one tune for Meth one tune for no Meth.
If you run out of Meth and you are tuned for Meth and you do not have a program flash tool just dont red line your car (stay below 6K) until you can add Meth again.
