Hey all, good to see some familiar names from the "other" site! I was kellypgh over there and probably should have kept it that way for simplicity sake... It's been 6 days straight with some sort of rain each day and the first possibility of a clean MINI will be Sunday. That is truly my idea of spending Mother's Day, if only everyone would leave me alone for the day to do just that rather than the expected motherly obligations I still have not managed to do a thorough clay and wax since winter and don't know when I'm going to find the time... this work stuff keeps getting in the way.
What do you "Detailing Specialists" use to help keep the brake dust from sticking to the wheels so bad? My wheels seem to really hold on to the dust.
I like to wax my wheels using Prima Wheel Armour. Doesn't reduce the break dust but allows me to rinse with water to remove.
Ditto on Wheel Armour. Also, ceramic pads produce non-corrosive dust that's much less "sticky" than what comes off the OEM pads...
Thanks for the info. My MINI only has 4K miles on it so I don't think I will change out the pads just yet. But I will keep the ceramic pads in mind.
gregd, how about you start another thread with the wheel question, then we will talk about the issue there, rather than in this general start-up thread Mark
i also have some stubborn brake dust that refuses to come off. its to the point where i want to pay someone to get the specks off :nonod: and i still have water spots on the bonnet that wont go away. they've been there since i bought her. nothing has worked so far....
Brake dust that won't come off... clay... simple green (see lotsie's success story)... Water spots on bonnet... if they're REALLY water spots, clay will get them off. Can also do a vinegar wipe-down to dissolve them. If it's something that *looks* like a water spot but isn't, your clear-coat may be etched in that spot. That would require polishing to fix - but should still be pretty easy... if you have deep etching, it MIGHT require a wet-sand and polish...
Bath day for both MINIs today. They are not real dirty, so it should only take 1/2 an hour or so Mark
MINI5280 Group Clean MINI5280 Group Clean was a success - weather was perfect and 23 MINIs bathing together in public - oolala! Fun day and good turnout.
I love my JB MINI but boy is it hard to keep clean. Sure looks great when it actually is clean though.
i will have to try claying the wheels, thanks!! as far as the bonnet though....we've clayed it, and polished it, and buffed it...all had zero impact :mad2:
Going to do some interior detailing on the Clubman, get it ready for the Run to the Black Hills. We leave Wednesday, going to rotate/clean/wax the wheels tomorrow. Mark
Plain white vinegar on a microfiber has worked well for me in cutting hard water stains...much better than clay, IME. jeff
Hey everyone, I'll be back online this week...flying back from Hong Kong tomorrow. Looking forward to participating on a daily basis as soon as I recover from jet lag.
