    Gee wiz, I can't change the title.
    As posted by the United States Senate;
    Statement of Purpose: To uphold Second Amendment rights and prevent the United States from entering into the United Nations Arms Trade Treaty.
    This was a not the treaty itself, but a non-binding test amendment in opposition to the ATT tacked onto an unrelated Congregational budget resolution. Roll call vote,

    Nope. Norm is right! This stupid treaty would hurt our rights and hurt our firearms industry. China and Russia will keep exporting. This idea will do nothing to stop gun crime. It is only another power grab by the libs.

    Scott you source has a known history of bending the facts to fit their narrative. No offense.

    No offense mrntd, but Snopes.com is well referenced in Wikipedia as being very unbiased. There are 25 references including The National Review, New York Times, Readers Digest and NPR, just to name four. Snopes does not have a political agenda as you seem to imply. You state a 'known history.' I'll read any reference on that allegation you provide and give it full consideration.

    Digging for facts to illuminate the truth is easier than ever, but still not as easy as not fact-checking at all.

    Snopes is unbiased? Check on the founder....

    That being said, it's probably the best quick and easy source. But Snopes has made mistakes, and I wouldn't go so far to say that it's totally unbiased, it does lean to the left slightly, but tolerably.

    cct1, I have checked on the founder, multiple times (here and here), just two examples of many. Mistakes? Sure, they're humans (husband and wife team - one a Republican and the other a Canadian), but I check that site a lot, and to me, they don't "lean" in any political direction. They want what I want: apply an appropriate level of critical thinking and research before "helping the world" by forwarding something that simply fuels your particular world view. As I like to say "you're a human too...you might be wrong."

    Snopes is easy and is always a good start, but as we've all surely discovered, the entire truth usually does not reside completely in one place. Just keep an open mind and keep asking questions. The truth IS out there, we just have to cobble it together.

    And back to the OP....isn't the term "traitor" too strong? Make no mistake, I'm not defending ANYONE in congress; nearly the entire lot are an embarrassment if you ask me, but really, 'traitor'?

    When comparing a dispassionate, measured, and well-cited argument against a narrowly focused, semi-rational, "they're out to get us again," "the sky is falling" counter-argument, the logical conclusion of which is likely to be more credible is almost always correct. :)

    I've been watching this treaty for years now. It is very bad! Japan started it because it wanted a seat at the security counsel. The UN has been working on this since back during Clinton.
    The post did not say there was a vote on the treaty. It was a vote to support the Second Amendment.
    It may say it is to control international sales but to do that they have to know where the small arms are and control them. It will affect your rights! No they are not going to collect them over night. It happens slowly. Ask the British citizens.

    The UN sucks!!! Read their charter it stands in stark contrast to the US Constitution.
    People are getting hacked up by machetes and they do nothing! But if they can gain power or line their wallets with money their happy.

    I'm a US citizen the UN can kiss my American @$$.

    Sorry I don’t mean to get spooled up but I do pay attention to what they do and they are a bunch of hypocrites. Just look at some of the countries that have chaired the human rights committee. What a joke.

    One last thing. I’m sick of how the UN has put US solders in harms way. That alone is enough for me to despise them

    I'm not pointing my anger at anyone here. And I don’t mean to offend. I dont have to agree with you to be a friend. But in this case this is a bad treaty.

    I feel better now. :wink: And no I don’t have anger problems :mad2:

    Not sure if this story is true or not, don't care, but looking at that list of people, I'm sure they have took and given away many of our rights as Americans, story or not :cool: One democrat down yesterday in my area, another Republican voted in......and the real, "Hope and Change" starts :cornut:

    Both parties (Democratic and Republican) are at fault for everything in the past and currently going wrong with our beloved free country. I think every one from each party should be fired and replaced with Non-career power hungry politicians.

    Our countries government should be run by the American party for Americians.

    We should put a 100 ban on every Democratic and Republican politician and any lobbiest.

    And I suppose, snopes.com: Urban Legends Reference Pages turned this up too;

    ISACS number 03.30,“National Controls Over the Access of Civilians to Small Arms and Light Weapons.” Among other things, 03.30 requires national registration of firearms and owners, prohibitions on civilian possession of certain weapons Americans can already legally and legitimately possess with additional licensing, and even has language advocating for national home inspections of private gun collections for “safety compliance.” This second standard was written by Dr. Ed Laurance, who is a former strategic planner for IANSA. IANSA stands for the International Action Network on Small Arms, which, according to page 3 of its foundation document, is committed to “reducing the availability of weapons to civilians in all societies.”
    Lets not just cherry pick, see for yourself what applies, http://www.un.org/disarmament/ATT/docs/ATT_text_%28As_adopted_by_the_GA%29-E.pdf

    :lol: He was born in 1930......hell of a criminal at age 14, huh. Read the wiki article for more info.

    It's crap like that that has done more to polarize this nation than any other. The continued dissemination of lies and half truths by the media, followed up by the constant passing along of the same by folks who can't take the time to verify what they say, post,email or tweet.

    And as for the UN treaty........there was no vote! And nowhere will you find anything posted about supporting the treaty in this thread, but some of you seem to think there was. How about we all try and do a little critical thinking about what this thread was about, the posting of a rather inflammatory half-truth.
