cct1, I have checked on the founder, multiple times (here and here), just two examples of many. Mistakes? Sure, they're humans (husband and wife team - one a Republican and the other a Canadian), but I check that site a lot, and to me, they don't "lean" in any political direction. They want what I want: apply an appropriate level of critical thinking and research before "helping the world" by forwarding something that simply fuels your particular world view. As I like to say "you're a human too...you might be wrong."
Snopes is easy and is always a good start, but as we've all surely discovered, the entire truth usually does not reside completely in one place. Just keep an open mind and keep asking questions. The truth IS out there, we just have to cobble it together.
And back to the OP....isn't the term "traitor" too strong? Make no mistake, I'm not defending ANYONE in congress; nearly the entire lot are an embarrassment if you ask me, but really, 'traitor'?-

Not sure if this story is true or not, don't care, but looking at that list of people, I'm sure they have took and given away many of our rights as Americans, story or not
One democrat down yesterday in my area, another Republican voted in......and the real, "Hope and Change" starts :cornut:

Nathan, I have many times wondered why in the world a great forum like MA has this politics and messy stuff sub forum. I see no constructive purpose for it and a great deal of vile, vitriol and ill will as a result. Seems to me to be a place to put ones worst foot forward and create hard feelings. And as the collective "we" with such great cars and fun stuff in common this forum section is strikingly out of place.

My post was not intended to be a personal attack on anyone, I put that at the end of my post. If it was taken that way I am sorry. I am on this form to have a good time and help if I can with troubles people may have. Not to piss anyone off.
I do like a good debate and I never take it personal as long as there is no name calling.
I have been on the road for a week with little sleep so I may have tried to tone it down a little.
I stand by what I said. It was not pointed at anyone except the UN. I dont except anyone to agree and I will say it agin You don't have to agree with me to be a friend.
Sorry Nathan for making your job harder. I hope you feel better.-

No offense mrntd, but Snopes.com is well referenced in Wikipedia as being very unbiased. There are 25 references including The National Review, New York Times, Readers Digest and NPR, just to name four. Snopes does not have a political agenda as you seem to imply. You state a 'known history.' I'll read any reference on that allegation you provide and give it full consideration.
Digging for facts to illuminate the truth is easier than ever, but still not as easy as not fact-checking at all. -
Snopes is unbiased? Check on the founder....
That being said, it's probably the best quick and easy source. But Snopes has made mistakes, and I wouldn't go so far to say that it's totally unbiased, it does lean to the left slightly, but tolerably. -
When comparing a dispassionate, measured, and well-cited argument against a narrowly focused, semi-rational, "they're out to get us again," "the sky is falling" counter-argument, the logical conclusion of which is likely to be more credible is almost always correct.
