How true. It was fun to see my son drive the Dragon for the first time also. It was good meeting you and your son.
This is what I know about the GP incident. The GP involved is GPII number 0156. The driver went into a slow 20 mph turn on Hellbender a bit to hot and slid across the yellow collecting a blue Cooper in the front wheel area. I did not see the Blue Cooper so do not know the damage done. This was before Twilight and Twisties on Saturday evening. The above is what I heard. Not from any of the people involved. There may be some truth to the story but again, it is a third person account. I was also informed of another incident on Saturday night where I was told it was before Midnight on the Dragon. Allegedly a JCW, not sure if 1st or 2nd Gen, went off the Dragon and was stopped by a stump from heading into the water. I stress that I do not know any more than that, I cannot validate it any further. Barry (snooter) was awakened by a midnight call about the alleged incident.
The GPII did have a GoPro camera mounted on the dash but I don't think he will be posting up the footage. :nonod::mad2::nonod::mad2:
Made it home this afternoon. Just got back from having a couple of Margaritas to celebrate Cinco de Mayo. Had a strange encounter on the way from Hendersonville to Fontana Saturday morning. Didn't look like Bruce Wayne driving though.
I left Sunday @ 6 AM and stopped only twice and got home in PA (West Chester) at 4:15 PM Sunday to catch the last 20 laps of Talladega.
You were quicker than that Dave. When I went by at 6:20 you were standing at the back of your car. I got home just before 1. We did it with three stops, a few of us are older and my car is thirsty, to be fixed as we fine tune the Vi-PEC.
Haha, we saw that Vette on our way to Highlands on Saturday and I was upset that I didn't get a picture. Thanks for posting. The license plate was "Gotham".
Sunday morning as I was departing to head home the most fantastic, unimaginable ride occurred. I checked out of Fontana and went to Deal's Gap for breakfast. I left Deal's Gap at 10:10 a.m. and had a totally clean Dragon run, arriving at Tabcat bridge at 10:29. I did not see another vehicle going in my direction either in front of or behind me! I had expected SUVs, Campers, vehicles towing trailers, cruising bikes, crotch rockets, LEOs and everything else at that time, but there was nobody else there. It was exhilarating.
I wasn't there, but I will surmise he was driving in a spirited manner. Nothing wrong with that. Until they cross the center line & clobber some poor soul minding their own business. Happily no injuries other than bent metal. Pretty easy to figure this one out. Just my .02 & worth every penny.
What I think he is saying is every year it only takes one fool driving like a nut and causing a stupid accident to give our whole MINI group a black eye.
Understand from someone who was there that an ill advised maneuver to avoid wildlife caused the GP to cross the yellows.
Yeah that's the oldest story in the book. I would like to see the GoPro footage from the dash in the GPII but I think it would be easier to find Jimmy Hoffa.
