The first B-Spec (Sportsman Showcase) Grand Am race is this weekend at Homestead-Miami Speedway. The B-Spec race will be on Sunday, prior to the Rolex race. Currently, there are 8 cars registered: 4 - MINIs 2 - Mazda2s 2 - Ford Fiestas For our donut fans out there, one of the Fords is sponsored by Krispy Kreme! :biggrin5: Anyway, I'll be headed over to Miami tomorrow and will be helping out Bruce Hollander with his MINI B-Spec racer. -I'll be taking some pictures of the newly wrapped race car (it will be unique, that's for sure!)... kind of a graffiti/tattoo looking wrap. You'll have to see it. -Setting up video for the car, so that I can post IN-CAR video of the practices and race once I get back. -I'll be getting a video comparison of my stock Cooper exhaust vs. the B-Spec Cooper exhaust, which will be made available for sale soon. So, I'll post some info/pics to here when I get a chance, but over the next few days, I'll be posting OFTEN to the Turn17 Facebook page and the MINI race team's FB page, Fast Cars, Inc... in case anyone wants to follow along. Of course, I'll post updates for the other B-Spec MINIs and the RSR cars and Continental Tire series, as well, but I'll TRY to preface any "spoilers" with 'SPOILER!!!!!" in case anyone is hoping to watch the Conti race later. I don't know if the B-Spec race will be televised at any point, so I won't worry about spoilers there. Should be an awesome weekend, now with SEVEN race MINIs out there! If anyone has any specific questions or pictures you want to see, just let me know!
Thanks for the ringside reporting. Not a bad field for the first race. Find out if Team Krispy Kreme is handing free donuts! I'm somewhat conflicted, I loves the MINIs, but I loves the donuts. :donut1: Looking forward the the updates! Thanks.... :biggrin5:
We're at the vinyl wrap place getting the wrap done. I posted it on the Fast Toys Facebook page if you want to see it. We'll be at the track tomorrow morning at 7.
That looks really neat! I especially like the Oxy Blu with the orange wheels. Is that one your MINI? Keep up the good work.
Are the B-spec cars on the track by themselves or are they racing with another group? Could get real lonely out there.......
Thanks! Yeah, the 'MINI Gulf' is mine Also, yes, the B-Spec cars are out on the track alone. They'd get run over otherwise! Lol
BTW, the MINI pictured above had the second fastest lap time in practice this morning: http://www.grand-am.com/News/GA_News/tabid/141/Article/50116/grand-am-sportsman-showcase-qualifying-results-homestead-miami.aspx?cid=6385&sid=83
Should be a good race. Not a lot of entrants, but it should be fun. Have any on track shots yet? Love the golf colors. I've always thought they's look great with that color of Oxy Blu.
Absolutely... it should be a very tight race! Here's a shot from the track from my iPhone: Better ones later when I have a chance to upload from my nice camera. by Blainestang, on Flickr Yeah, it came out great! Same here... would be awesome. And the truth is, if you did a bolt-in cage, it could easily still be your daily driver when you weren't racing. The mods are really minor, relative to your typical racecar. Wet race! I always like the rain, it is such a great equalizer & brings the talent to the top. Nice pictures from a phone no less. Did you notice how much flatter the MINI is in that corner compared to the Fiesta? Looking forward to your next report. Thanks....
Since there won't be any televised coverage even post-race I don't think a spoiler warning is required... Not only was the race run in the wet but they lost about a third of the race to a full course caution due to "deteriorating conditions and standing water" on the track! Check out the notes here to see how it went.
