I did Jeff, no more cigarettes! An occasional good stogie is good though, pretty sure that after smoking for 2/3 of my life, its not going to hurt anything. ;)

    Hi MA,

THis is my first post on these forums. So, yay!

I've just confirmed my registration for this years MOTD and I can not wait. (particularly for the beer swap event) I also just booked a campsite on the Fontana grounds. Since it will only be me and my R53, I figured I'd post here and see if anyone else would like to camp out.

The campgrounds are on the Fontana Village Resort. I've booked a site for Friday, 05/01, and Saturday, 05/02. It's only $25 a night so if anyone would like to split it, it's $25 for 2 nights of camping.

    Can't wait to meet everyone.

    Cheers,
    Roger

P.S. I'm driving down from NYC. If anyone is coming from the northeast, let me know. Would love to caravan down.

Been craving a cigar for a bit now. We don't smoke in the house unless its an emergency  and it has been a bit chilly to smok em outside and actually relax and enjoy them. If jonesin too bad we throw a fan in a window in the office and smoke one in there. :biggrin5: Acid Toast is my poison!

Depending on your arrival date, I might take you up on that! I cant get into the cabins (Tapoco Lodge) until Tuesday, but I am planning on being there Sunday or Monday... :)

I am mostly quiet (depending on the atmosphere) and have a tiny tent I am taking (6'L 3'W 2 1/2'T backpacking tent) and a very unique R53.

    SO in a pickle here:

I have a campsite at the resort reserved @ $35 a night. It is just me and a 2 person tent. Now this is less than ideal with average temperatures dipping to the 40s at night and almost nightly precipitation. Has anyone actually camped there during a MOTD and can describe what it was like?

OR I also have a cabin (would need a roomate), but it is approx 12 miles from fontana and a 20 min drive, price is $40 a night for 2 people. So basically it is cheaper to stay in the cabin, but at the expense of having to drive back every night (not to mention being able to cook using a microwave and fridge and there is a shower. any thought on which would be better? I am leaning toward the camp site so i can stumble back to my tent after a few....a lot of beers, but I don't know how the whole food thing will work..... someone please help.

We have camped at Fontana four different times for MOTD. Twice in a pop up camper and twice in a big tent. Temperature has never been a problem so far. There were a couple of years when there was significant rain, but as long as you have a good tent and prepare, that's not really an issue...that's just part of camping. I really like the Fontana campground....its convenient, quiet, and spread out.

    reservations.html

The owner can be reached at (828) 735-1930

The Woodshop (sleeps 4 for $70 a night) is still available for MOTD. The owner is very nice and the area can support multiple MINIs parking. it is less than 13 miles from fontana, but is at a good rate, especially if divided among 4 people. Let her know I sent ya ;P
