It seems to be taking a long time for pages to COMPLETELY load today. I can see what I think is everything, and pages comes up as per normal, but the twirly loading icon thingie and the bar take several minutes to complete.

Can you tell me what thread it was in or is it all threads?

If the thread has a lot of pictures and if they are hosted off site it may take some time for them all the fill in. Hence the twirly loading icon thingie and the bar taking several minutes to complete.

One way to tell if it is M/A or a connected site is as follows:

Firefox - Look in the bottom left corner, the address you are connecting to will be displayed there. If they are zipping by faster than you can read them then there really is not an issue and it's just a lot of stuff coming over.

Opera - Same area as FireFox, again, you should see stuff zipping by.

Safari on PC - Doesn't give much info so I'm at a loss here.

Safari on Mac - Can't test, no Mac here.

IE8 - Also displays the connected URLs in same area as FireFox and Opera.

Now if you really want to get into why this is going on install FireBug (FireFox only) and record the Performance. Send me those files and I'll add that the data I record.

One of my ongoing long term projects is tweaking the server and delivery methods to gain speed. Things like minimizing white space in CSS files by removing extra line feeds. On their own each of these little things do very little, but taken as a whole they add up to increase the speed.

Hope that helps explain why you see what see at times.

I was having intermittant problems with it earlier today, I thought it was just me - or my computer access....it does seem to be full speed ahead again now.

For me it was all threads, forum pages, PMs. Fixed now though. The green bar that shows things loading on Firefox would hang at what would likely be 99%.

Oh...that must have been when I was updating the server O/S earlier today. All the cached items that get delivered real quick like had to be rebuilt afterwards.
