Look at RAM mounts--they have a number of different options, all high quality--many of us use them on the track for recording video/data through our phones.

I've been using the Kenu Airframe mount for a while now (not in a MINI, so can't speak for fitment there). I love it because it will hold my iPhone or my Garmin. It is also nice to be able to pop it off and put it in my wife's car if needed.

That seems like a nice mount. May have to buy one of those.

 

Craven speed makes some nice units if you want it near your tachometer....
In many cars, if you don't use your CD player, CD mounts the hold your phone work great...not fancy, but I used one for a bit...was a Amazon unit, for about $10....not directly in my line of sight, but good enough for how I used my phone. Kept the wires to a minimum since I could charge it from the cigarette lighter plug....
