Engineering speaking for the MINI... not really. It all depends on how you drive the vehicle. Fundamentally the locking devises that are available the ones that can actually tailor to the driver/car ability to reduce or increase traction in any predetermined fashion need to be adjusted for the specific needs. There are only three that I know of on the list mentioned in this thread capable of such adjustments? And all would require the removal of the devise to do the adjustments for optimum use.
Boy if a slip eliminates torque steer mine must be broken. I'm sure it helps, but it is very dependent on road surface & steering angle. So my answer to the question is no a LSD does not eliminate torque steer.
Ok guys the question was will it reduce torque steer.... NOT Eliminate Torque Steer. You guys keep trying to turn every comment into a NAM argument thread. :mad2:
An LSD will not reduce torque steer. Torque steer comes from un-equal length driveshafts. An LSD will only come into effect if one of the wheels looses traction, you don't start out with both wheels having power (unless you are using a locker diff). When a wheel looses traction the LSD then will transfer some power to the other wheel.
I don't intend to hijack this thread.... But, in the case on the 2nd generation, MINI is apparently using a software up-grade to modify the performance of the e-diff to control torque steer.
One with a few photos of both Quaife and OS Giken. Nitro, are you holding a political office? That is a very long "Yes!" Great info in this thread. Thanks for all the input!
Werkin Mini sells OS Giken products. Unfortunately, due to poor exchange rates, prices increase ~12% on January 1, 2011
I got my OS Giken through Werkin Mini and they installed it as well. Excellent results. I highly recommend the product and the provider. And the price will continue up for many many months so waiting will only cost more.
i know this is off topic. Is there any difference between the OS Giken and a Torsen unit other than tune-ability of the Giken and the torsen being an open diff when a wheel lifts? will there be any difference on a daily driver other than on a sheet of ice perhaps? -jonathan
