Not for me it isn't..... It's supposed to turn brown with age..... and it does quickly. The client wants this to happen. In a couple of weeks it will get a brown patina and start looking like a used penny. Areas that get a lot of wear will have brite copper hi lights.... over time it'll get burnished just from use and will look quite nice.....:beer
Hey Chuck, Babs will be down directly to pick that piece of art up. You are an artist with metal Chuck!
Ha Ha.... This is where Bab's gets the copper drops I give her.... She's the artist.... I'm just a "Tin Pounder"....
We have a copper top on the Cupola on the barn. I guess it an old Army thing, but I keep wanting to go up there a polish it up, so it shines again. My wife said she would shoot me if I do that. Why, exactly, do people want to buy something shiny, that is not cheap, and then let it turn green? I don't get it. :nonod: Jim
^^^ Jim, listen to your wife.... If you polish that top..... Guess who will need to keep polishing that top....
It's the oxidation process that occurs when a pure metal wants to revert back to its natural state. It tends to protect the underlying base metal from from further oxidation. It becomes copper oxide..... Iron wants to turn to iron oxide when it rusts. Just tell your neighbors.... that rusty car sitting on blocks in your front yard has a very valuable patina forming and ask if they might be an interested buyer.....
I understand that MM, but I am use to doing that and yes, Crash, I will listen to her. The funny thing is, she will polish the crap out of the brass buckles on her bridle, which will get just as green if you leave them alone. Jim
For people that like to see "Made In America" handmade metal stuff.... Made this all out of stainless steel today.... [/IMG] [/IMG] [/IMG] [/IMG] When all the bits and pieces are done.... Your own personal "Transporter" You need two of these of course.... One at the other end..... Look closely and you'll see the atoms are starting to coalesce in the center.... That's the tricky part that you really need to get right the first time.... Wouldn't want an elbow where the knee should be..... [/IMG]
My business was started in 1885... And a few years later... The WWII battle of Britian had a series of early warning radar towers that proved very effective... Just found an old order and figured I better honor it..... Lend Lease with Britain and all. I need to do a better job of filing orders.... Sooooo, I made one of these today.... It weights about 1200 pounds. Can't have something like this blowing over the cliffs of Dover, Good Chap...... [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bLYRQW0YXx0&hd=1]Made this today - YouTube[/ame]
Man, I could use one of those to mount my Directv dish to. Tired of losing my signal. With that baby I could just gout out back and tweak it ?
