They did it to Randy last year at Nasa Nationals in his JCW Challenge car. They bumped him to PTB due to Tq.

WOW so if I'm reading that right.. The 400hp ABF turbo's time of 1:52.141 would only be competitive against the TTB record in NASA and the ABF JCW's time of 1:58.049 would be like 4 seconds off the TTC NASA record there if they met the classifications?
Didn't realize there was that big of a difference in NASA and Redline....

Yeah you would of thought that Jan would of put the same combo in one of his two Mini's and be collecting some more trophys / podium's at the Cali events.....................

Me and Ian always have sensible conversations / discussions. He is a canny racer and I find it fascintaing that they kick him for finding a winning combo and he still goes back for more
Obviously I would love to see him battling it out on the same tracks with Dez in the ABF Mini as this would fuel them to go faster and come up with new ideas to make there cars faster.
The UK Time Attack wil see the biggest field of Mini's this weekend with at least 5 entered, and yes that includes our own drag/street Mini with a driver who made his first track laps last Tuesday.
What I cant understand is how I've got slammed on every forum about how a Mini isnt a drag car but these same people dont enter / show up at these events / gatherings, I really dont understand it
Surely these events no matter where they are in the USA are ideal events for the Mini community to turn up so you can race / show / banter and have fun with your Mini's. Its not all about being Top Dog unless you're highly competitive, it should be about personal acheivement and New Personal Bests NPB at that particular track. -
In SCCA World Challenge they give the winners "rewards weight". Win a race... you get 50 extra lbs for the next race. Win 2 in a row they slow you down more. It's part of racing. The real winners figure out how to win anyway.
We could have probably done a couple small things in TTB, run the TTC power level to open up points for wider tires and such and come up with a way of cooling the intake charge but Jan called me in January and bascially said lets go really fast.
Our goal this weekend was to monitor water temps, monitor intake temps, make sure the car runs in the opperating temp we wanted. Take it easy on the car and make sure everything works correctly with the belt. Play with the AWESOME group 4 stuff and play with the handling from the added tq. Water temps were lower then expected....... Intake temps were lower then expected
and the belt stayed on perfectly
.... We had new issues show up like the brake pedal becoming like a kitchen sink sponge. We didn't win, but we didn't expect to. But we went faster by a fair amount and we know there is a lot more time in the car.

And if you are talking about actual races (road) I try to get involved in all I can, but most drivers don't advertise when they are going to race. -
Paul...Geography is an issue here. The UK including all the islands is 94,525 square miles. Here in the US there are 11 states larger than the entirety of the UK. The folks that are participating in the Time Attack type events are far flung around the US. The logistics of getting them in the same place at the same time to this point has proved to be insurmountable. Even creating an event in the middle of country it is still a very long haul for those on the edges where most of the Time Attack participants are located.
I read with envy on MINI Torque about the events that draw so many to Track Days, Time Attacks and Tunnel Runs. -
Nathan if you haven't, you really should go to a NASA event! We ran at the June Jam at Road Atlanta this past weekend and every class from group 1 through group 4 HPDE and all the racing classes was full with waiting list of drivers wanting in.
NASA = BIG TURNOUT/LOTS OF COMPETITION!!!!

Great job Ian explaining the classes to all and how your car has changed over the year. I heard from Jan about the G4 aero stuff helping the car. Get rid of the couple of problems and it will be interesting how the car responds. Just wait till fall comes around when all the testing is done. CAN'T WAIT

Keep at it Ian & good luck with all the development.
