How much power is too much power?
1. If your car can't go a week without breaking, you went too far.
2. If you can't pay the electric bill because you spent all your money on engine upgrades, you went too far.
3. If your wife is having an affair because you spend too much time working on your car, you went too far.
Anyone have anything to add to this list?

Unfortunately, too much power for many of us here and too much power for the general public are two completely different things.
And Mfg.'s have to play to the lowest common denominator.
Which includes the guy who takes his car to the dealer for an oil change and the guy who doesn't change his oil but every 50k miles, they're all rolled into one in the eyes of the Mfg.'s. -

I think a stock MINI is about right, but could be perfect with a touch more power. I'd be happy with 220-240 in my R56.

I'll bet the Manhart car doesn't meet US emissions laws either (removed cats), but adding HP isn't the issue IMHO, it's performing better than BMW's that's the problem.
They don't need 300 hp if they can take another 500lbs out of the car. -

My cast iron block 6 cylinder Jag weighs 400 lbs less than my 2009 Clubman S......I think they could go on a substantial weight reduction program.

When you can't get the power to the street because it's FWD with no real LSD... too much power.
When you can't properly modulate the throttle to control the vehicle... too much power.
When you make a car so fast that it becomes unstable at max speed with its aero design... too much power.
When you make the car prone to Mustang GT-like neighborhood incidents... too much power. -

There could be a business case for it. They choose not to.
