More curbside repairs at home New MAF the other day Didn’t fix 2B5C (P115C) code Today: New throttle body and also removed intake and looked at the intake valves They had a layer of black crusty stuff but not too bad so I hit them directly with some Seafoam spray and a compact toothbrush then some canned air 2 intakes at at time, turning the crank in between so I was working on closed valves. All back together now, Seafoam smoked out, and the code isn’t coming back whereas it was happening every time I drove the car before. It’s nice when things go right. Yay!! I think the problem was with the throttle body.
I have always run 93 in our MINI's. Your car will pull timing with a lower octane fuel. Less power, but I don't think it will hurt itself. Is your MINI a Cooper S or a non-turbo Cooper?
So update no walnut blasting because it’s base model just the the two VVT solenoids changed and everything else checks out pickup is tomorrow and see how everything turns out~~
Cooper's are great MINI's enjoy it! Another great thing is it does not have direct injection. No walnuts needed, but I would run a bottle of Chevron Techron through every now & then to help keep things clean.
Here we go! So VVT both changed and running great for two days and all of a sudden check engine light again! Weird thing it’s running good and idling good? Hmm so I pulled 3 codes in history but no new code will check with shop! Oh and also the Chevron Techron as suggested ~~
So very interesting article and I’m gonna try it!! https://us.autologic.com/news/mini-cooper-vanos-timing-faults-caused-by-vacuum-pump
Woo Hoo!! Bingo! Changed out vacuum pump today and yep it was turning rather not freely and even the round gasket showed some crushing (see photo) and corrosion so I think it was definitely giving false vanos timing faults and engine lights! Once replaced checked and cleared all and ran vanos adaptation and she screams for driving now and no idle issues hopefully (knock on wood) I can relax for awhile now! But hey you know it’s a mini!
