Here's a few photos regarding the C clamps and my straight cut gear set.
This is what happens with low oil.
The 3 types of Mini synchro rings. Peugeot uses the one piece non fiber ring
For sure the torx bolts will round off so I weld a nut on. When rebuilding a Midlands it is always wise to buy the 4 C clamp bolts and at lease 1 or 2 bearing plate bolts.
When the C clamp wear the 5th gear inner hub gets worn away
The forks wear away too!
Here's a worn and broken C clamp.
New clamps from Eminiparts.com
I collect the Midlands boxes mainly for spares.
The Peugeot gear set has a C clip instead of a nut
Straight cut set with Gripper LSD. I went for the straight cut synchro set instead of the dog box because my Mini is a daily driver.
When the gears or crown wheel let go the casing is always busted.
My swap from a normal gear set to straight cut. I went for a straight cut crown wheel and pinion too!
This is what happens when you don't change the oil on a regular basis! Sludge in the oil ways....not good.
