It’s not the CVT. Checkers has a beautifully modded 2005 MCSa that is still going strong so I’d say that along as it’s maintained properly one should get a lot of enjoyment out of it.
I think the 2005 used a Getrag 5 speed which is supposed to be the good transmission. The earlier Midlands 5 speed box of cogs was the one that had all sorts of issues.
The auto used in the R53 is an Aisin made in Japan transmission. I believe the CVT used a Getrag. There are two kinds, those that have died and those that will.
