Mods, if this forum supports stickies, I think this should be one.

I'm new new new to MINIs and have never set foot inside a dealer. I've jumped in with both feet, and let me tell you, the water is murky with terms that everyone here uses and no one explains. Hey, I get it: you're all pros, no hard feelings. But rather than have the same questions asked over and over when someone new joins, I thought I would start this list while new definitions are still new to me.

Feel free to add suggestions and corrections! I'll edit as things are updated.

    Models
    • GP = some limited edition, no idea what it stands for
    • JCW = John Cooper Works
    • Justa = Just a MINI. Not an S model, JCW or GP.
    Technical
    • HID = High Intensity [I have no iDea] A headlight option of some kind
    • OEM = Original Equipment Manufacturer. Something exactly to original spec, approved by BMW.

Random notes: R## (starting with 50) are models of MINI. Unless they're models of OEM wheels!

Just let me or Steve know what needs to be added to the list in the Library and we'll be happy to add them.

"Motor On" really needs to be in there, as does "Sewing Site."

Some (not me, well probably not me, maybe not me) would say "POS" would stand for "F56". Same number of digits; it's just too close.

You guys need to get off the derogatory comments on the new cars, we will have members (and may have already) driving those cars - if this truly is the "friendly MINI site", how can we continue to make such statements about our member's cars?

Just because they're not our choice doesn't mean there's something negative about them that needs to be repeated - constantly.

Oh God here we go again..... come on already.

If you and others don't comment most people will just skip over the post.

By posting you bring even more attention to it than the people that post.

Just let it go already. :deadhorse:

It's a car, get over it. Or just ignore anything I write, many do.

Some people don't take it personally, some do. They shouldn't. Some people get what tongue in cheek means, others don't. I can't help you there.

The great irony is the complaints about "repeating constantly" are so predictable, and "repeated constantly"...

Go ahead, bash the R53, you have my blessing. I can handle it. I won't complain about it. It does not affect my sense of well-being one iota.

Yep, let's stay politically correct, and keep our opinions to ourselves. There is a
site for that. It's called NAM.

You guys need to come up with an acronym for all that R vs. F opinionating and add it to the directory. Think in terms of the prison chow hall joke where a guy stands up and yells 27 and everybody breaks out laughing then another yells 17 and nothing happens. Y'all should know the punch line.

    How about R5F?

That should do nicely for that, gets all the models.

I'd also like a chill out emoticon too.
