It was a frustrating finish for me because I couldn't get the video feed (slammed?) and couldn't watch. Fortunately late in the game the official site finally added a live ranking ticker. Don't know when they finally got around to adding that -- should have been there all along -- but I know it was near the end of the race and I didn't find it until around the last lap. :mad2: I think I found all the MINIs: 35th -- #142 -- 134 laps 112th -- #139 -- 114 laps 113th -- #146 -- 114 laps 126th -- #154 -- 109 laps 128th -- #147 -- 108 laps 136th -- #153 -- 105 laps 176th -- #152 -- 43 laps (DNF)
MINI are reporting slightly different (lower) numbers than those I posted for the Coupes (146 & 147) but I lifted mine from ADAC so I'll leave them as-is.
Who knows... We have no idea at this time what they changed from stock to run the race and we have no idea of what the failure is at this point. Anything is just conjecture at this point until MINI DE release information.
Finished 35th, actually, that's 4th in the SP-3T class behind the Impreza WRX that finished 21st overall (!) and 2 Audi TTs (24th and 29th overall, respectively).
Some video MINI has released [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1blFek676n4]YouTube - The MINI JCW Coupé Endurance Makes History.‏[/ame] Not from MINI but this is the coverage of the end of the race [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cBGKP9usuu0]YouTube - 2011 Nurburgring 24 Hours Race Finish‏[/ame]
Don't know, other than the #35 (see post 46 above). There might be better info avail after those involved get a bit of rest and start tidying up the details. One thing I'm not sure of is the rule about minimum distance for classification. There's a rule that says you have to finish within a certain percentage of the race distance of the leading car in your class. At least I think that's what I heard, but I didn't catch the percentage number. If so, every car that finished in class SP 3T had to complete some minimum number of laps relative to the class winning #155 Impreza WRX which, unfortunately for the others in the class, finished extremely well at 21st overall, completing 142 laps. Don't know whether all the MINIs made that cut. If not, they won't be officially classified as finishers. We would all know they actually finished the full 24 hours (other than the #152 which burnt to a crisp for some reason), MINI would just need to be careful how they word their press releases.
Watched as much as possible on TV Audi.com and at the finish they only listed the first 127 cars as finishers. That may have been the cut-off point. Sure was fun to watch even tho my German is close to zero. :biggrin5:
So, both cars had to pit due to engine problems, but there was nothing mechanically wrong with the cars, just the ECU. I can picture the scene in the pits after they hook up to the diagnostic port........ Software Engineer: What seems to be the problem Hal. Hal: I can't tell you that Dave. Jim
Not saying....but it's funny from what I have seen, how the mechanics always blame the ECU and the software guys when something goes wrong... Will be very interested in what the final analysis is.
Same here but we'll probably never know the whole story. This isn't just a race team, it's advertising scheme. The info they release will likely be carefully filtered and spun. Oops, I think my cynical side showing... :ihih:
Your not being cynical at all Steve; it's just fact. ALL race teams be it factory or private filter the info to best suit their product and/or sponsors...good or bad. But if enough questions are asked, one can usually read between the lines...
I pulled the numbers for race results directly from ADAC, but things reshuffled a bit since then...perhaps in part because of that race distance vs class leader classification biz? New numbers are in the MINI Motorsport release: MINI Passes Adventure Test
