I agree, but I think they are comparing rally cars in this instance.

I was refuting to WRR constantly makeing fun of people that think that MINI is going in the wrong direction.
I'm not even saying I hate everything about the new car. But it is ugly as the day is long and they are taking away some of what makes the MINI instructing.
I know MINI is a business and just like the first Mini company they need different models.
I've had lots of people tell me they like the car but don't want to drive something that small. Fine buy a SUV. We have one and need it, 4 kids and a boat to tow. But please don't say if they made a mini SUV I would buy it, oh and buy the way can you change every thing On the inside too?
I'll be more clear. I'm not talking about the styling. We won't all agree on it, that's fine. I'm talking about those things that make MINI, MINI. It is suppose to be quirky.
And because you brought F1 they are ugly!! :biggrin5::biggrin5: -

Well, it's clear that I completely misunderstood the OP's rant, and I have to say I'm still a bit confused about what his complaint is......
But for my part, I like my Gen 2 Clubby, I liked my Gen 1 JCW, and I'll probably find plenty to like about the F cars....... and I don't see anyone being forced by anyone to like something. If you like it you buy it, if you don't, you don't. Simple enough, right?
The one complaint I have has to do with the extreme escalation of the price........how come no one complains about THAT?
I mean, $40K plus?????? -

I also think that leasing was a big driving factor behind the MINI next program. (Lease returns) -

My wife leased 2 Audrey's. Not my idea, her's. First one was a good car, but the second was a piece of carp. Had we owned it we'd have lemon lawed it. Trouble was in this state you can't lemon law a lease car. God was I happy when that turd went back to Audrey. Since those were lease cars they were never bonded with like a car guy or car gal bonds with their car. Just a rental transportation device. Never again, Audrey or a lease.

I dunno the F56 just looks wrong. I had a R53 for six years and now have
a R58 JCW. If something happened to my R58 I'm not sure I could buy a
new MINI. And I don't feel good about that. -

We have one of the "worst" Audi's built and sold in this country (at least if you believe the forums), the infamous Allroad with the twin turbo V-6......only problem is, nothing has gone wrong with it in the 10 years we've owned it so far.
And we can't afford to replace it with a similar car - not that they make one anymore. The 2014 Allroad which is built on the A4 platform instead of the A-6 we have now, also has a 4 cylinder engine, and no air suspension and so on and so on, and still costs well over $50K!
For that matter, were I to replace my 2009 Clubby with a new F version, I fully expect the replacement car to cost about $10k more than I paid 5 years ago. That's absurd..... -
I know there has been those that has said the sky is falling with every new model, not me. Can I see the R53 in the F56 yes. Its still ugly!!! will it look better in person maybe. I'll what and see.
The second gen looks different then the first gen thats fine. And several people have posted picks of their sound gen cars that look great to me.
The second gen still has the stuff that make MINI quirky.
MINI should be different. I'm sure BMW could make a MINI Camry and it would sale like hot cakes. BUT IT WONT BE A MINI!
And thats my point. BMW is undoing what makes the brand different. At least they started out trying to pay respect to the real Mini. -
We are heading to Detroit tomorrow, so I'm curious to see the F56 in person. I've heard some feedback from a couple of people and most of the criticism was more related to the interior.
I can honestly say that I don't think I will ever own another MINI as my primary vehicle, but I could see owning a used R50 as a third car. I think the R50/R53 were the best looking hatchbacks. -
OK, sitting in a bar in Detroit and ready to give a 3 Bear review of the new MINI...
1. JCW looks really good in person. The catfish mouth is even more pronounced and works well. The brushed metal paint looks incredible.
2. The interior looks better across the board. Looks more premium to match the cost of the car. The red Start switch is awesome. May be to much tech in the car.
3. The headlights slope back way to much.
4. In person and looking at the profile of the car, the catfish lips on the S look better than the Justa. -

I don't like the auto park systems. I don't like the auto stop and lane departure systems. I don't like autopilot. These allow us to rely on the computer to 'save us' and we unconsciously devote less mental power to ensuring everything is in check.
I guess at the old age of 32, I just got get these new fangled technologies but that is just me. WALL-E is one of my favorite movies to watch with the kids. It is exactly where society is headed. -
